Lyft & GM’s Express Drive Program Expands To New Cities, Adds 2017 Chevy Bolt EV

After launching in San Francisco this summer and scheduled to hit LA by the fall, Lyft’s Express Drive service will offer more Californian users the chance to access not just the 2016 Chevrolet Volt, but also the all-new Bolt EV.

Express Drive will also launch operations in Denver before the end of the year, with Lyft now estimating that over 130,000 people will receive the opportunity to drive on the platform.

This expansion comes on the heels of other successful launches in cities such as Chicago, Boston, Washington DC and Baltimore. In fact, 30% of new Lyft-driver applicants in Chicago have gone on to request an Express Drive vehicle, while Boston’s program was fully subscribed in less than 4 days after launching.

“Expanding Express Drive provides opportunities to hundreds of thousands of new potential Lyft drivers and continues to make car ownership optional for both drivers and passengers,” said Lyft president & co-founder John Zimmer. “We are also excited to be adding electric vehicles to Express Drive, which is an important milestone for Lyft and the industry.”

GM and Lyft are also working together to create an autonomous ride-sharing service. Part of this original alliance was GM providing vehicles to Lyft drivers through multiple rental hubs across the US, while Lyft drivers and customers are to have access to GM’s OnStar services.
