The BMW 1-Series in petrol & automatic guise proved to be the nation’s fastest-selling car in the month of August, needing on average just 19 days to sell.

According to Autotrader, second place went to the Toyota AYGO, which took just 21 days to find a buyer in petrol & automatic spec, marking this the fourth time this year that the small Japanese city car has made an appearance among the UK’s top ten quickest selling cars. Third place goes to the Fiat 500L, whose diesel version took 21 days to find a buyer, the same as the Aygo.

If we go by region, the fastest seller would be the Ford Galaxy MPV, more specifically the diesel with an automatic transmission. It’s followed by the Hyundai ix35 (diesel/manual) and the Nissan Qashqai+2 (diesel/manual).

Still, if it’s popularity you’re most curious about, look no further than the crossover segment which remains extremely dominant in terms of sales charts. In August, crossovers took up five of the top 10 spots and were “quickest sellers” in seven different UK regions.

“Crossovers continue to be highly sought after by buyers as our fastest selling car data and the SMMT’s new car registration figures confirm,” stated Retailer & Consumer Products Director Karolina Edwards-Smajda. “But as the UK’s top three fastest selling cars prove it’s not always easy to tell what type of car will always prove popular with consumers. Retailers who place data at the heart of their business will be able to glean insights as to what cars are desirable in their area and where to price them to the market to attract buyers, and these insights can supplement a retailer’s own expertise and knowledge.”
