Evaluated in both RWD and AWD, the 2017 Dodge Charger has managed to win a maximum five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

This further validates the robustness of our safety engineering. But crashworthiness is only half the story. We are immensely proud of the investment we’ve made in the driver-assist technologies that help enable crash mitigation“, said FCA’s Head of Vehicle Safety and Regulatory Compliance, Mike Dahl.

The federal auto-safety regulators have noted the availability of a crash-mitigation system, which uses a radar and cameras to detect if a frontal impact is imminent and sends audible and visual warnings to the driver. If he/she fails to react, then the system automatically triggers a brief brake application, as a tactile alert, but if the driver still remains unresponsive and the risk of frontal collision remains, then the car’s brakes are applied to slow it down before impact.

Besides this feature, the 2017 Dodge Charger comes with more than 80 safety and security gizmos, including the Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, which uses camera technology to help the driver be aware of the Charger’s position on the road. If the vehicle is steered towards a lane marker in a way that could be confused with driver inattention, then the system will deliver steering inputs. These can be adjusted to suit each driver through the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen display, which made its debut on the 2017 Charger, Challenger and Chrysler 300.
