With a long list of features that would make every off-road enthusiast jealous, the first out of 16 Amphibious Combat Vehicles (ACV) 1.1 prototypes has been delivered to the US Marine Corps for testing.
Rolled out during a special ceremony held at the company’s New York, Pennsylvania facility, the BAE Systems-made vehicle uses an existing platform provided by Iveco Defence Vehicles and it’s said to be highly effective at sea, while providing superior land mobility and state-of-the-art systems survivability.
“Iveco Defence Vehicles has a long-standing legacy of building multi-purpose, protected and armored platforms, including solutions for amphibious operations. That expertise, coupled with the hard work of our dedicated AVC team with BAE systems, has allowed us to deliver the first of these vehicles, ahead of schedule”, said President and CEO of Iveco Defence Vehicles, Vincenzo Giannelli.
Equipped with a FPT Industrial Cursor 16 engine that delivers 700 horsepower, a significant increase over the Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV) that is currently in service with the Marine Corps, the 8×8 ACV is fully amphibious and ship launch-able. It’s said to excel in all-terrain mobility, and with its suspended interior seat structure it can transport up to 13 Marines.
