New Bentley Continental Supersports Is A 700HP Bullet Train

Bentley pulled the wraps off the new Continental Supersports and boy, we did not see that one coming.

Of course we expected their most extreme model yet but we never expected that Bentley would have the guts to give Continental figures like these: 710 PS (700 bhp), 1,017 Nm (750 lb-ft) from a redeveloped W12 engine.

These power figures give the new Continental Supersports easily the title of the most powerful Bentley ever but wait there’s more; the company also claims that their latest model is also the world’s fastest and more powerful luxury four-seater on the planet.

The new Supersports is able to score a 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds (0-100km/h in 3.5) and top out at 209mph (336km/h). There is even a convertible version which requires 3.7 seconds for the 0-60mph procedure (0-100km/h in 3.9).

Bentley has upgraded the W12 engine with new high-performance turbos, a revised charged-air cooling system which create more boost while changes were made to the cranktrain, including new main and conrod bearing. The company also gave the chassis a torque vectoring system from the GT3-R, to make this beast behave more agile down the road.

The carbon ceramic brake discs are the largest of their type in the world and hide behind a set of lightweight 21-inch forged alloys which together offer a 20kg weight saving in unsprung mass. Customers can also opt for an optional titanium exhaust which saves an additional 5kg. Overall, the new Bentley Continental Supersports is the lightest-ever version of the current Continental GT lineup and even lighter than its 2009 predecessor. With that said, the car’s kerb weight is still more than 2 tonnes, tipping the scales at 2,280kg (5,026lbs).

Outside the new Bentley features new front and rear bumpers which incorporate a carbon-fiber splitter and a diffuser respectively, new side sills and bonnet vents made out of carbon as well.

The exhaust pipes are now finished in gloss black while all lights all around are dark-tinted to match the black brightware in the front grille, lights, rear bumper, door handles and window surrounds. That wing you see in the photos is an option and comes as a combo with a specific front splitter.

The cabin is finished in a unique tri-tone trim, with a diamond-quilted design applied to the seats and door panels in Alcantara, with Bentley offering chequered carbon-fiber fascia panels next to the existing selection of ten veneers and technical finishes.

  • new ferrari ff is faster !

    • Kaisuke971

On paper the GTC4 Lusso is 1 mph slower, but quicker to 60 by 0.1s.

  • Kaisuke971

Looks like a Mansory product or something

  • TheBelltower

Ooooooh “new high-performance turbos”… To replace the shitty Chinese paper mache’ ones from previous Continentals.

I don’t know why that jumped out at me. Cool car tho.

  • jaykit

Please god kill that rear wing. I like everything else though, a lot.

    • Eythan Aldrich

dude that wing is functional get over it….

  • Craig

A good example of how important torque is. The Hellcat makes 7 more horsepower. But 100 less lb/ft of torque. And even though the Bentley weighs about 470 lbs more – it gets to 60 mph quicker [by 0.3 seconds] and has a higher top speed. [by 5 mph – 209 vs 204]

    • Alban Gojani

      The Continental is AWD though.

      • Craig

AWD isn’t making it reach 209 mph.

        • Alban Gojani

It doesn’t? Wow I didn’t know that. But maybe it helps reaching 0-60 0.3 seconds faster than the Hellcat, what do you think?

          • Craig

Yes!! Absolutely! AWD makes a BIG difference when starting from a dead stop. And it is quite likely playing a big part in why it’s quicker to 60 than the Hellcat.

  • SteersUright

When I saw the 0-60 I was sure something was off as 710hp and AWD should be in the 2’s you’d think. Then I saw the weight…5,000lbs?!?!?!?! Why on earth would a 2-door car around this size weigh that much?? Is the engine an iron block? Are the panels all steel? I just don’t get it. The car seems excessively heavy.

    • Matt

It’s an old platform, new model will be lighter. In saying that, nobody expects a W12 Bentley luxury coupe to be ‘lightweight’.

    • Vassilis

Sound insulation in those cars is like nothing else. I think that’s the biggest reason for the weight along with the materials. That leather, those carpets, the trim, they’re all quite heavy.

  • Six Thousand Times

Quite the sendoff for the old girl.

  • Belthronding Tinuviel

that is the worst rear wing that i have ever seen. goverment must take legal action for designer asap!

  • Div

Thanks for sharing brief info…nice car

  • Bo Hanan

I love all the comments on this article. Very good back n fourth. Regardless, I think this car is fantastic! The true definition of a beast. She’s a “big girl” but she handles her sh*t.

  • Sjaak

Strange, Don’t understand why the Bentley-boys, put a Ford Mondeo grille below their original Bentley.

  • Vassilis

Quite a beast but I’d really love it if they had gone a little wilder and shaved hundreds of kilos from the car. It wouldn’t be as luxurious but it would have been cool.

  • S3XY

Looks real nice. Classic design. They should make it electric.
