Ford Hides Easter Eggs In 2018 Mustang’s Digital Dash

Ford may have unveiled the facelifted 2018 Ford Mustang last week but it has remained coy on just how much more power the upgraded 2.3-liter and 5.0-liter engines produce.

However, a potential horsepower figure for the range-topping V8 has just emerged courtesy of a tweet from Ford’s North American communications manager Mike Levine.

The photo above included a caption suggesting that it contained a number of Easter eggs for the 2018 Mustang GT. Among the most obvious are the 289 miles on the fuel range in recognition of the displacement of the first-gen Mustang’s V8 engine, as well as 1964.5 miles on the odometer, making reference to the muscle car’s first model year.

Perhaps of more interest is that the digital gauge cluster shows the car in 4th gear and driving at 55 mph. Put 4 and 55 together and you get 455, a reasonable horsepower figure for the model considering its inclusion of direct injection and port fuel injection. If the 2018 Mustang does have 455 hp, that would give it a 20 hp edge over the current car and perfectly match the 455 hp offered up by the Camaro SS.

Road & Track contacted Levine about the potential horsepower figure and received an image where the large 4 was replaced by a 7. Does this mean the new Shelby GT500 will have a Hellcat-beating 755 hp?

We’ll just have to wait and find out.

    So, GT500 will have 755 horsepower & 963 newton-meter or 96.3 kilogram-meter of torque? Or just coincidence?

    Interesting 🙂

so to recognize these easter eggs you need to know history and numbers pretty deep….

Guess I do, and I’m not even a mustang guy! I thought HP would be 470 based on what the tach reads

      • 455hp is what the Camaro has right now… maybe the Stang will be 470hp??? maybeeee

    • Uhh not if you’re a girl….

      • salamOOn

uhhhh, not only if you are a mustang guy…. i doubt you know first model years of every car / sport car / super car…..

        • Here’s some of my families:

You don’t know what 1964.5 or 289 means in a Mustang? 455 is how much HP the Camaro has… I want to know why Ford is adding a S197 Boss 302 & a Bullitt model into these new ads, tho?!?! Tell me that!! haha

  • Tumbi Mtika

    Ooh. I like this…

  • Did you see the pic with the S197 Boss 302? A new Boss would be cool beans!

I’m lovin’ this new digital guage cluster. As for the 455hp figure, I would have thought it would be higher like around 470+. This new Mustang is the one to get. I just wish it had a different front airdam without those Ford GT blades.

  • john1168

I also like how they have 1964.5 on the mileage and 289 for miles to E. Mustangs first model came out in 1964 1/2 with a 289 cid engine.

  • TomcatJoe

Look at the trip odometer and time. It’s clearly going to have 1121.8HP and 1117.11 ft/lb of torque.
