Can’t Afford The R35 GT-R? Buy A Nissan 350Z Instead

If the Nissan GT-R R35 is what one might call “Godzilla”, its little sibling, the 350Z, would definitely have to be “Godzooky”.

For those who didn’t grow up watching those silly cartoons, Godzooky was Godzilla’s “cowardly little cousin” in the Godzilla animated series that originally aired in the late 1970s.

Now, while there’s nothing “cowardly” about the 350Z, according to Car Throttle, you can still call it a GT-R cousin and end up with an “awesome and affordable” car that has rear-wheel drive and produces 313 PS thanks to a 3.5-liter V6 engine.

With the help of a 6-speed manual transmission, the old 350Z could hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.7 seconds, which at the time was properly quick, way quicker than any regular hot hatch and about as quick as something like an E92 BMW 335i.

The 350Z might not be the most fuel efficient sports car you can buy, and the interior plastics can be quite tacky, but if value for money is what you’re after, you’ll get plenty of performance and solid handling characteristics at a price where the GT-R would never factor in.

Overall, the Nissan 350Z can be a solid consolation prize if you can’t go anywhere near a GT-R, budget-wise.

And the 350 doesn’t look bad or dated.

  • Ilbirs

The 350Z is on the hall of the best designed cars ever. It still looks great today and its shape proves that is possible to pay tribute to the past of the lineage it comes from without falling on the retro temptation that affected a lot of brands in a recent past. At least in looks, I put this model on the same league of the original Citroën DS, the 911 and other timeless models of auto history.

The 350z drives well too. I remember from back in my valet days that I always enjoyed “parking” these.

    • BlackPegasus

You little fucker! A valet driver placed 6 miles on my Z years ago. The tires smelled of burnt rubber. I got the little bastid fired and threatened to sue the casino property.

      • SteersUright

Hahaha, actually, it was at the casino! Damn, I wonder…
Younger days, no access to my favorite cars, made the most of a shit job. Today I valet all the time in Miami knowing full well somebody’s probably having a little fun.

    The 370Z is even better.

    i dunno, i don’t trust Alex
ever since he tried to drug test Engineering Explained

Not because Engineering Explained is clean (he’s not)
but because he acted too wistful about wanting to see it

always wanted them to make a turbo version.

0-60 in 5.7? Where are these dudes getting their times lol my 03 almost completely stock did it in 4.9…

  • BlackPegasus

As a former Z car owner I can tell you that the car was super fun to drive. But as the article states, the interior design and quality was horrible, but it can easily be overlooked in exchange for the raw fun of the 6 speed manual. 👍🏽

  • AwesomeDude

    emm… no thank you.

  • Dexterbarnes+MinoreeTee =GAYYY

    “Godzooky” enough said. 😂😂😂

With a proper tune the Z can run circles around a gtr. My old Evo MR could spank them both.
