New DS7 Crossback Mid-Size SUV Captured Undisguised [New Photos]

Images showing the new mid-size SUV from Citroen’s DS luxury brand driving on the streets and with absolutely no camouflage have surfaced online, about a month after we spied a prototype winter testing.

The license plate of the undisguised car appears to read DS 7 Crossback. Whatever it’s called, we know it will be the brand’s first SUV sold in Europe and directly rival the Audi Q5 and BMW X4 as the French firm looks to tackle the big German three.

The image above from Citronfeng (thanks Motofilm!) reveals that the DS 7 SUV adopts an exterior design quite different from the company’s existing fleet of models. Most notably, the front incorporates sharp new headlights rather than the more circular design of the DS 3. Additionally, we can see LED daytime running lights that have a slight curve to them as well as independent round fog lights.

Beneath the skin, it has already been confirmed that the new DS will be underpinned by PSA’s EMP2 platform.

When it hits the market, it will also be the first DS model offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain as well as the group’s new 1.5-liter diesel delivering up to 130 hp. The petrol range will then be topped out by a 240 hp performance model.

Given the timing of these two photos, it seems quite likely that the DS SUV will debut at March’s Geneva Motor Show.

NOOOOOOOO! Where is the Citroen flair? It looks 10 years old already. 🙁

    • Miknik

I wouldn’t say it looks old, but anonymous with Zero French, let alone Citroen flair.

      • TheHake

It looks like a Mitsubishi ASX…

        • Bash

thank you sir, I just wanted to say that! lol

          • Tumbi Mtika

            Getting Acura RDX over here.

          • TheHake

And Infiniti FX35 mixed with a Lexus RX450 from the rear quarter…

          • Tumbi Mtika

            Good eye.

        • Christian

          I think you´re right.

        • Gustavo Adriano

It has Q3 flavour in the front and lexus RX at the side view IMO.

          • TheHake

            yup. I see that too.

        • Dennis Scipio

          Uhh, no it doesn’t

        • The ASX is sold by Citroën as the C4 aircross

    • CoolHandLuke1

Because it is not Citroen. It is supposed to be DS. When you try premium you have to go bland. Every new BMW looks like old BMW. They just don’t change which is conservative and boring just like premium-status-people.

      • TheHake

The DS5 is premium and can in no ways be called bland. Even the DS4 is nice. This is just boring.

    • Not supposed to look like a Citroën… Just a french version of luxury cars (wich looks old and German sure). Citroën will have its own SUVs.

  • WG

The chrome pieces and the lighting elements up front look cheap. Otherwise, I kind of see it as a Francais style Audi.

  • Kash

Looks like something Acura would make, I actually thought this was the MDX at first and then the RDX at a 2nd glance until i read the title.

    • TheHake

      Or Mitsubishi.

      • Kash

So i don’t really know what to call what they’re doing with the grille other than maybe a floating grille? Anyway, besides the element itself, the way it’s designed, along with the headlights this isn’t really Mitsu but it’s very Audi and Acura to me. I even see some subtle hints of Hyundai in it, but the design is just too clean and rounded and looks too upscale for me to see Mitsu i guess.

        • TheHake

To me it looks like a cross between the ASX and (pre-facelift) Outlander.

  • sidewaysspin

Why are they planning to sell diesel versions if governments everywhere are preparing to restrict them, it’s a waste of money for the consumer to be investing on something that will be outlawed eventually. As for the car it looks good perhaps a bit anonymous for a citroen altough german cars also sport anonymous sometimes bland looks and yet they sell well.

    • CoolHandLuke1

In some countries diesel still has 50% market share. Diesel is better for planet (less CO2). Gasoline is better for people living near roads (less NOx and particles). We have too much people. Too little pure nature. Do the math.

  • Bob

    Audi, Audier, Audiest, this thing.

  • Ugly

  • Marko Jajčinović

    I think it’s rather awful.

  • Tumbi Mtika

    Audi Outlander RDX anyone?

  • Shawn Kaminski

hi i hope it will come to america im a fan of french cars and trucks

    • it might in a few years but probably not this generation. But you can buy a new Citroën! The Dodge, sorry RAM ProMaster is also a Citroën Jumper.

  • Obsequious Lickspittle

Generally these little trucks are a cul-de-sac of design.

  • Braddo

If i didn’t know any better i would guess Audi. Not very exciting at all. Shame as Citroën is generally an interesting design.

  • fabri99

    Is that an Audi Q3?

  • p00pman

they need to do something about their logo asap

  • Six Thousand Times

  • Still ugly !!

  • TheBelltower

Are they serious with this thing?

  • I never understand the obsession with trying to make a product ‘German’. That doesn’t equal a free pass to a great product or brilliant quality. I wish Citroen would embrace their French flair and just marry it up with bulletproof reliability. Add some sex. Add some theatre. Put the indicators in the glovebox and the sunroof on the boot, but just make it proud to be French.

  • Blanka Li

    It lacks “Citroeness” 🙁

    • Tinky-Winky

because it’s not a Citroen anymore.

  • Mike Gonzalez

Audi called to get the front grill back
It doesn’t look old to me, but looks more Japanese (Honda specially) than French, that’s for sure

    • dufonrafal .

      More like a Lexus

I’m waiting to see it irl because I’m unshure of what to think here.

  • Kash

the back has a somewhat original Infiniti FX design to it, but updated, it’s actually nice and the tail lights look like they have a cool design, it’s a small feature but still a nice touch nonetheless.

  • diego

At the first moment i think it is another China Audi clone! ;-D

  • Vassilis

  • excitement level ? 0

  • jfalckt

Disappointing , I only see Lexus when I look at this; and who wants to drive around in a brand with no actual heritage? Oh, hang on, there’s more similarities than I first thought
