FCA chief executive Sergio Marchionne has announced Maserati’s intention to launch a second SUV by 2020.

According to Marchionne, the vehicle will feature Alfa Romeo underpinnings and be positioned below the Levante. It remains unclear why Maserati has decided against using the platform of the Levante and Ghibli, instead opting for the Giorgio rear-wheel drive/ all-wheel drive platform of both the Giulia and Stelvio.

The SUV will directly rival the likes of the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Jaguar F-Pace.

Marchionne believes the launch of the second SUV will help increase the company’s annual earnings to 1 billion euros ($1.18 billion), Automotive News reports.
