Hennessey Unveils 1,600 HP, 301 MPH Venom F5 In Vegas, Beats Chiron [Live Pics]

Hennessey’s all-new hypercar, the Venom F5, was built with just one goal in mind, to be the fastest road car in the world. With a top speed in excess of 300 mph (482 km/h), all we can say is they’ve done it!

In order to achieve such high speeds, the Hennessey Special Vehicles team had to come up with a brand new design, chassis and carbon fiber body, so as to have the lowest possible drag.

“We expect the Venom F5, named for the most powerful tornado speed winds on the Fujita scale, to be the first road car capable of achieving more than 300 mph and have worked closely with Pennzoil to get us across the finish line,” said company founder and CEO, John Hennessey.

Mated to a 7-speed single clutch paddle shift transmission, the car’s new twin turbo V8 unit will send over 1,600 HP to the rear tires, all while dragging along a curb weight of just 2,950 lbs (1,338 kg). This combo of power, low drag and light weight should take the car from 0 to 186 mph (300 km/h) in less than 10 seconds, making the Venom F5 faster than any current Formula 1 car.

Zero to 249 mph (400 km/h) and back to zero can be achieved in under 30 seconds, whereas the top speed is projected to exceed 300 mph (482 km/h). The price for driving the world’s fast production road car? Upwards of $1.6 million. Also, the automaker is only planning on building 24 examples, which will make the new Venom that much more valuable in the long run.

“Working hand-in-hand with Hennessey on one of the most stunning road cars we’ve seen has been an incredible experience,” says Shell VP of marketing, Patty Lanning. “We share a passion for performance and know that Pennzoil will protect the F5’s engine through development and testing to production.”

Overall, the numbers that the Venom F5 is proposing are simply ludicrous. Its 0-400-0 time of less than 30 seconds not only demolishes the Chiron’s time of 42 seconds, it also makes this car over 6 seconds faster than the Koenigsegg Agera RS.

In addition to displaying the Venom F5 at the 2017 SEMA Show, Hennessey has brought two other cars to Vegas, the VelociRaptor 6×6 and The Exorcist, based on the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

  • I’mCallingYouOut

Wow interesting, “0 to 186 mph (300 km/h) in less than 10 seconds, making the Venom F5 faster than any current Formula 1 car.” That’s pretty nuts. The look feels a little generic, but “super-car generic” is still wild. 1.6 million wild though?

    • Christian

Supercar…More like Hypercar….AND THE CAR IS YELLOW YES, but the guy from Polestar still had a Brown suit!

    • Eunos

I’d prefer a Carerra T over this glorified Elise with fake stats any day now.

      • LWOAP

A Carrera T? Out of all the Porsche’s you chose that? It’s not different from a normal Carrera aside from bits of trim and interior work. And the performance is basically negligible anyhow. It’s hardly worth the premium over a normal Carrera.

        • Eunos

Yeah, the Carerra T is probably the worst Porsche 911, but it’s still better car than this POS

          • LWOAP

          • Six_Tymes

            infantile mentality

      • agree. The looks is average.

    • Tarmo Riisenberg

      With those tires: never.

  • Lloyd Anthony D Peters

301mph…. it’s almost frightening to think that you can now purchase a ROAD CAR that does over 300mph. Of course I’ll hold my breath till official testing and a high speed run is performed. But where can you max a 300mph car? VW’s test track where James May maxxed the Bugatti?

    • TheHake

And in the pub next to yer mates who can only do 280mph…

  • PK

umm the interior pics would be nice.

    • Kevin Tay

you know, it’s very fishy when the windows are tinted so black that it’s not possible to see through.

    • Stigasawuswrecks

      It’s just a shell.

    • Sean Sweeney

It doesn’t have one…IT’S PLASTIC… Top Speed = how many people pushing!

  • AxlRock

Won’t believe it can do 300mph until we can see their official test run. Would be interesting to see how it holds up at that high a speed and how long it lasts.

    • TheHake

      The tyres especially…

  • OdysseyTag

If it’s headlamps were any further apart, they’d essentially be side indicators…

    • donald seymour

Bro, they’re side markers. Laugh out Loud.

  • Akira

“Should”, “could”… Yeah sure. Wasn’t there a few years ago some saudi 5000hp thing that “should” have been the fastest car on earth too?

  • SteersUright

HOLY CANOLI!!!! This is the sort of exterior design McLaren severely needs and had no idea how to do. A proper looking super car. Cant wait to read more about it. Great job!

    • David Doyle

Um…what? Have you seen McLaren’s cars?

      • SteersUright

Unfortunately I have. The weird headlights and poor design. Every time I see one in person it looks like a generic exotic car cheap clone and pales in the shadow of a Huracan, R8, or any Ferrari parked next to it. They might be great cars, but they sure aren’t very beautiful.

        • LWOAP

They’re not designed to be pretty; they’re designed to go fast. I’m pretty sure McLaren puts performance first and styling second.

    • Matt

It looks like a piece of crap, where did you put your glasses?

      • SteersUright

I just checked again. Nope, you’re completely wrong. Looks beautiful, menacing and proper super-car-ish.

    • Ermal Morina

Lol really. The looks are generic and not impressing at all

    • alexxx

The front looks kinda ok but the back is awfull

      • SteersUright

The back lights look cheap, almost McLaren-like honestly. And the tri-exhaust should be framed, along with the diffuser running the full width instead of broke in two. Honestly, just remove the crappy looking tail lamps and its pretty beautiful to me.

        • alexxx

The exhaust should be framed but everything else on the back NOT….to many bold lines…cheap looking…

          • SteersUright

I’ll somewhat agree, back needs more work. Overall though, I find it so much more bold and appealing than so many others. Love the properly large windows too.

        • Kevin Tay

the rear of the car looks like something out of Saints Row, lol. Really just looks like it’s made out of plastic.

      • donald seymour

Opposite for me. The front is goofy like.

        • alexxx

I said kinda ok…front light are slightly awkward but that back…it’s from 70s to be honest…

    • Jds65

i’m not convinced you’ve ever actually ever seen a McLaren.

      • SteersUright

Lol, I have and its ok, we can each have our opinions. Mine are that they’re incredible bland and generic. Slap any label on any McLaren and it works. Nothing distinctive or beautiful and I especially detest their headlights. The only beautiful McLaren I’ve ever seen was the original F1. Now that was a beauty.

        • tkindred

When I see McLaren’s here in Cali I don’t even turn my head to look at them. Doesn’t seem like
many others do either. But when a Ferrari pass by some people do look, including myself.

          • SteersUright

Exactly the same here in Miami. A 488GTB, LaFerrari, Huracan,Aventador, R8, and many others get much harder looks. Most people I talk to do like the McLarens but its always, “yeah, they’re pretty cool” as opposed to “holy shit, thats awesome” when a Huracan drives by with its glorious V10 engine noise.

  • Auto

I can’t wait for them to film this. Maybe they can destroy the 0-400-0 record by Koenigsegg on camera.

  • Honda NSX-R

I wonder how “civilized” it is compared to the Venom GT. BTW it seems like they went to Thermal Club to take pics of it.

    • David Doyle

Everyone does. They whore themselves on shoots so when people realize how overpriced they are for racing, they still have promo shoot money lol

    • Matt

They used the render suite of a CAD program for the photo shoot.

  • Anon

” Beats Chiron ” it was already beat …

  • Vassilis

  • dean

yeah, yeah, yeah…. vaporware…. lets see the interior.. ford and gm parts…

    • Auf Wiedersehen

      Agree…He’s not a car builder…he’s a kit builder.

  • João Barbosa

Again Chiron is a luxurious car, that gives you everything. he’s on another league!

  • john1168

This car is quite the accomplishment but it doesn’t matter if it’s faster than a Chiron. It won’t have the luxury cache the Chiron has. If Bugatti stripped out a Chiron and made it super light it would go just as fast. My question is, what tires will it use and how long will they last at top speed.

    • Ermal Morina

Exactly. The chiron isn’t all about the top speed,it has the looks and the comfort of going 400km/h while holding the steering wheel with one hand.

      • ctk4949

It has the comfort, but looks?? The chiron aint pretty!! hehehe

        • donald seymour

          I think it’s pretty.

        • Ermal Morina

Yeah,I really think it looks amazing, coming from someone who used to absolutely hate on the Veyron. The Chiron looks grown up,classy and in your face at the same time, and the interior it’s pure sex imo.Just my two cents tho

  • David Doyle

Thanks, but no thanks right now. Too much clout around JH’s name and company, no door handles, no interior pictures etc etc…

Looks dope, but show me it at the show

  • appleimmune

Nice looking as well.. Nicer looking than any Bugatti for sure.

  • Denzel

They made a good looking hypercar without looking like a lotus which is a plus. It should be interesting if they can hit 300 mph only time will tell. But funny thing is the Chiron is fast and luxurious plus it’s heavy even though it doesn’t hit 300.

  • Jweisberg

Too bad that car is not real. The lines are too perfect and there are no interior, engine shots. Plus the only video I can find of this car in motion shows a cgi version of the car.

  • AnklaX

    Holy Crap !
I hope they won’t test the top speed of this thing on any road and go for a proper race facility. I don’t wanna hear news of anyone dying over this.

  • Blade t

I don’t believe they will hit 300mph until we see it . That’s a very difficult number to reach….

  • Auf Wiedersehen

Looks like a lot of stolen design cues from a myriad of marques. I would expect no less.

  • ctk4949

Are those numbers just on paper?? Or do they have video proof??

  • Yum

  • Daniel Harris

I can’t wait for them to film this. Maybe they can destroy the 0-400-0 record by Koenigsegg on camera.

301mph you say? Yeah, sure, and I’m a fucking park ranger. I’ll believe it when I see it. You want to know what other car claimed to have a top speed of over 300 mph? The Vector Avtech WX8 and that thing went nowhere.

Unless Hennessey can prove it, I’m calling bullshit on these claims.

    • Marvin Manhertz

You know what car saw zero production too? Hennessy has already proven numbers with the original Venom which was heavier, less aerodynamically optimized and less power. I don’t think 300hp is far-fetched these days.

      • Tumbi Mtika

Well yeah! Even a Focus can pack 300hp EASILY now…

  • jrm

well no interior, 3d video images, the car don’t seem ready.
And for the 300mph, i remember when Bugatti explain that it was impossible to go to 300mph because of the tires, and Michelin say it too, but i can see on the pictures that the F5 is equiped with Michelin tires. The futur wll answer if the 300 can be done !

    • John Smith

You mean the Chiron which is over 1400lbs heavier? I wonder what effect that much more weight on tires at 300mph has?

  • VyperByte

Wait a tic – I find it hard to believe that this is going to happen, hitting 300mph in this car. The reason? Tires. If Bugatti, with its massive pockets still hasn’t been able to obtain road legal tires that it can legally fit to customer Chirons to bust past its currently limited 261mph top speed, how is the F5 going to do it? I can only imagine, it using non road legal tires for a top speed test, but turn around and sell the car with legal tires and a limited top speed somewhere near the Chirons.

  • Tydogg123 .

Sure is a lot of CGI in that reveal.

  • kimsoohyun

Um…what? Have you seen McLaren’s cars?

  • Dennis James

Unexpectedly great looking and the performance looks incredible too ! Design-wise, it looks on par with any Ferrari.

  • Logan Frank

” Beats Chiron ” it was already beat …

  • Yellow/Black Hell…..

  • Waiting next Ferrari “F1 Strada” (F80) in 2021/2023 with V12 1200 PS and epower of 400 PS for total output of 1600 PS, maximum speed about 500 Km/h…. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/ac5eb1f8803b968a64cc76fc7106e39c8a91a9bde96c8ab61e3608ea29d0f39f.jpg

    • Dennis James

Well…keep waiting, the Hennessey is out right now 🙂

      • Matt

But is it though? I’m pretty sure you can’t actually buy this car yet.

  • Tumbi Mtika

The render looked better. And BULLSHIT on the speed claim until proven otherwise.

    • LWOAP

  • Six_Tymes

Looks pretty good. how about interior pics?

  • Laf – UGLY part two ….

  • Jds65

looks like a fckn toy.Not that i could do better but fck me that’s such an amateur design job. Also that doesn’t look like a active wing. How tf is it gonna hit 300MPH with a fixed wing.

  • Jds65

This car literally looks like a cheap Chinese 1:1 scale knockoff toy.

  • Kevin Tay

Hmm… windows tinted so black you can’t see through? This may well be the most expensive Mattel scale model toy car, ever.

  • An Existing Person

Sorry but this still doesn’t hold a candle to the Chiron. You buy the experience, luxury, and cache that comes with owning a Bugatti which no other manufacturer will have. A stripped out Chiron would probably accomplish the same speed, but that’s not all that it’s about.

  • Six Thousand Times

Beats by being faster but doesn’t outclass the Bugatti.

  • They’ve been teasing the car for more than a year, and the interior is still not ready. hmm…

  • karmat

The rear is really ugly. Looks like a kit car crafted out of thick fiberglass.

  • Peđa Knežević

I present you a PK123 hypercar. It has 2000HP and beats everything in terms of speed, acceleration and braking. It does not even have interior, or engine, and it does not run, but if you believe enough in what we say, it will beat Bugatti by far. We will never put it (actual customer car) on a track vs anything, like the last one, but it will still be the fastest…..

  • fabri99

I’m quite faithful about this car. Yes, design-wise it looks generic and cheap, almost like a chinese knock-off, but Hennessey have proven a lot with the Venom GT, so I’m confident these new iteration will blow our minds. Plus, at 300 mph you’ll hardly be able to see it go by, so who cares about the looks? 😉

  • raikkonen

    “Beats Chiron”

Really? How? Because of its top speed and acceleration?

Why not have a story highlighting how a new top fuel dragster “beats” the Chiron? Or “beats” the F5?
    They’re all cars, right?

The difference is that the Chiron is an engineering masterpiece; something that can be perceived even through its turn-signal stalk.

Is the Venom faster? Sure it is….does it “beat” the Chiron? Not in any world of which I’m aware..

I’m by no means an automotive elitist, but the Venom hits me as being a headline-grabbing kit car.

Anyone can buy a Yugo and put a watermelon-sized blower on the engine…

  • ErnieB

But the Chiron is a design and engineering masterpiece.. venom looses!

  • RubberRunner

Riiiiiiiiiight. I’d like to know how they plan to achieve the claimed numbers with a fixed rear-wing. An active-wing is pretty much a requirement for modern hyper-cars and their record-braking numbers (even the Agera RS has active wing too). Also, sure would like to know what tires they plan on using. Bet ya the car comes with electronically limited top-speed for street-legal tires, probably near the Chiron’s @ around 260. And like the Chiron, a second key (or a switch or computer setting) to unlock top-speed runs, on a test track with race-quality rubber. I mean there is just no way this thing is suddenly going to dethrone the current hyper-car crop without some asterisks in the user-manuals and marketing material.

  • Knotmyrealname

It just looks like a love child between a Corvette and a Ferrari. Nice, but doesn’t excite me one bit.

  • Auf Wiedersehen

“twin turbo V8” no mention of what V8 it is…my guess if it sees production it will be a GM crate motor…whoop-de-frickin-do

    Tired old recipe…

    It’s a rolling clay model…that’s it…nothing more.

  • Six_Tymes

Hope someone gets to do a full video review of this, i am interested to see more

  • Zed68

    You’ll hit 300mph… and then you’ll die.

  • Tinky-Winky

Let me guess – this car doesn’t even have an interior yet, right?

  • ctk4949

“We EXPECT the Venom F5, named for the most powerful tornado speed
winds on the Fujita scale, to be the first road car capable of achieving
    more than 300 mph…”

So, I guess they haven’t actually even tried yet.

  • Michelin

How many meters that works before thé big smoking??

  • Spyderdrifter

Would have been cooler if they brought a real functioning version of the car and not a rolling full-scale model. I find it hard to make the “over 300mph” claim without the real car and a cgi video. I still hope they legitimately claim the title, but they need to show the real car.

  • i’m sure it will do 301mph… at least once for the test. But if it’s like the Venon, who on earth would want the fastest rollcage on sale when other hypercars are better looking, more confortable, batter built, some are like expensive watches… You don’t care if it really takes 20 atm/200 m, or 300 mph in this case.

  • BrucieBruce

Much more attractive than a Chiron too…

  • Vassilis

    Well, it looks good.

  • tkindred

Is this a full size model? It doesn’t look real. I think their previous car looked much better.

  • john1168

I’ll believe it goes 300mph when I see it. It’ll probably hit 290 and then hit an aerodynamic barrier of some kind. That last 10 mph will be a bitch to obtain.
