2019 Cadillac XT4: First Look At GM’s BMW X1 And Mercedes GLA Competitor

Cadillac is giving us a sneak peak at their highly anticipated XT4, ahead of its scheduled reveal date, which is set for March 27th at the 2018 New York Auto Show.

The teaser is part of a 30-second ad scheduled to run during this year’s Academy Awards, with Bruno Mars providing a very upbeat soundtrack – Uptown Funk.

“Cadillac is proud to be part of the Academy Awards, one of the most iconic platforms that reaches audiences across the globe,” stated marketing boss Renée Rauchut.

“The Oscars is a natural fit for the brand and the perfect stage to reveal our exhilarating new creative, including a preview of the first-ever Cadillac XT4 and a look at our industry-leading Super Cruise technology. We’re excited to show the world what the future holds for Cadillac.”

Once it breaks cover, the XT4 will officially become Cadillac’s entry-level crossover, slotting right underneath the XT5, where the latter is technically a direct rival for the BMW X3. This means that the XT4 would come in as an X1/X2 rival.

According to Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen, the XT4 will boast an “entirely new series of efficient and powerful engines,” while rumors point to a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit, producing at least 275 HP (205 kW). Other features could include a nine speed automatic gearbox and an optional all-wheel drive system.

An eco-friendly plug-in hybrid variant, spied last summer, is also expected to join the ranks, but only after the petrol model has had its day in the spotlight.

A compact suv from Cadillac. Can’t wait to see how people will react to that!

I have to admit it looks good. I hope they have done something new interior wise. This thing needs to be right and sell in HUGE numbers.

  • TrevP

I think it looks good! I’d personally take this over an X1 or GLA.

    • Bash

That is exactly what I was thinking.

  • Soob

    looks better then the XT6.

“We say, ‘let’s use the same outdated interior.'”

    • Bash

      Well I hope not!!

Autoblog has some interior spy shots of the XT4. It has real buttons (thank god) and the little you are allowed to see looks quite good and more important a departure design wise from even the XT5.

Oh wow! looking good, Caddy! Looks very unique which I think Caddy has been struggling with (I’m referring to unique from Caddy’s similar design they have used for over a decade), BUT the taillights are a little like Volvo’s new taillight design.

Cadillac looks serious here. Not my market, but very nice, I like these things are loosing their cuteness.

  • Bo Hanan

The XT4 looks like a smaller XT5, which it will be. Not ground breaking. And the X1 & GLA have been out for years. Other than the badge, what will Caddy do different? I say that well knowing that Caddy only competes with the previous generation of “that” car, which it part of the problem. Sort of a “well it’s better than the last one” mentality.

  • Six_Tymes

    Looks pretty good actually

I’m really liking what Caddy is doing these days. I drove an ATS and was very impressed apart from its super basic gauges. But it’s too small and aging now, though it’s styling is aging very well, might pick it up used some day. The new ATS and CTS should be stellar.

  • TheBelltower

    Looks promising.

  • Jay

Even though it has a Volvo rear and Mazda grill I’m very excited to see it.

  • Autoexperte

the taillights looks like the one from Volvo

  • MarketAndChurch

I feel like it will rely heavily on visual gimmicks to make it not look cheap. Hopefully they’ll surprise me, Cadillac needs something new and exciting.

Sooooo…basically, the Cimarron Trax by Cadillac.

Why is this so significant, when there will be GM’s S class coupe competitorS.
