Whether you buy new or used, owning something made by Factory Five Racing means that it was put together by car enthusiasts, rather than assembled by heartless robots in a factory.

Among their kits is this, the flagship GTM Supercar, which features parts sourced from a C5 Corvette, such as the engine, front and rear control arms, suspension, brakes and fuel tank. As for the gearbox, it’s a Porsche G50 transaxle.

This particular 2008 model is currently being auctioned off on Bring a Trailer, and according to the ad, the assembly of the car was completed in 2012 as a showpiece for the original builder. As you can see, the car features a red over black aesthetic, 18-inch wheels, BFGoodrich g-Force tires and a low-mileage 5.7-liter V8.

In fact, its LS6 engine produces 400 HP, allowing for a 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) acceleration time of just 3.2 seconds. When new, the kit starts from $24,990, so this used example will probably go for less than that.

Plenty of useful features

Inside, you’ll find a centrally-mounted Eclipse touchscreen, air conditioning, sport bucket seats, red-stitched black leather throughout, 3-point seat belts, an integrated 6-point roll cage and steel side impact bars built into the chassis.

Meanwhile, the digital instrument display provides the driver with trip info, including total mileage, which in this case reads 3,200 miles (5,150 km).

If somebody can fetch this car for less than $20,000, we reckon they would enjoy a whole lot of performance for their buck. It’s not everyday you get to hit 60 mph in just over 3 seconds for such a sensible sum.
