Sorry Trump, Ford Won’t Move Focus Active Production From China To U.S.

Ford won’t shift production of the Focus Active from China to the United States, dashing the hopes of President Donald Trump.

Last week, Ford revealed that it was dropping plans to import the Focus Active from China due to Trump’s tariffs on Chinese goods. The President thought these tariffs would force the automaker to shift production of the Focus Active from China to the U.S. but Ford says that isn’t happening.

Given that Ford expects no more than 50,000 annual sales for the Focus Active, it wouldn’t be profitable to build it in the United States, The Guardian reports.

According to industry analyst Ed Kim from AutoPacific, there was a strong chance the Focus Active would have been sold in the United States if it wasn’t for the tariffs.

“Without the tariffs, the business case was pretty solid for that model in the US market,” he said.

Kristin Dziczek of the Center of Automotive Research says there’s simply no motivation for Ford to build the Focus Active in the U.S now.

“[Ford can make Focuses] in many other plants around the world, so if they decided to continue to sell a Focus variant in the US market, there are several options other than building it in the United States”.

On July 6, the United States started to impose a 25 per cent tax on $34 billion worth of Chinese imports, including motor vehicles. These tariffs have since been extended to an additional $16 billion in Chinese goods and in the near future, will be applied to another $200 billion in goods.

Ford could absolutely sell the Focus Active in the US if they wanted to, but they’re acting like petulant little children all of the sudden. I’ve been a Ford guy for a long time, mostly due to my love for the Mustang, but their recent behavior has been a real turn off.

    • Dude

No one’s going to buy a Focus that starts at $25K (and that’s a conservative estimate). Don’t blame them for not committing economic suicide.

      • LJ

        I guess we’ll never know.

      • charlotteharry57

You are 100% correct in that starting price. Probably clear $35K with all options.

    • This guy

You should prove a point and light your mustang on fire.

      • LJ

        I don’t have a Mustang.

        • This guy

Then I’m sorry perhaps I missed something. you think you know how to market and sell vehicles in the United States better than Ford does?

          • LJ

            I never said that.

Yeah, for sure man. All these pumped up looking small crossovers kinda look alike, right?

  • Christian

this man is pure evil… Queen Hillary would had let more Mexicans in to help the US…

  • This Focus Active now is garbage thanks to this evil guy.
I wanted the Expedition, Explorer or Ranger.

  • JBsC6

Im sure the sales numbers of the buick active wagon flop had a lot to do with fords decision to cancel the focus active ..

  • Paul

Considering what this thing is supposed to be but yet no AWD in it who cares. It would have probably flopped anyway.

  • Dude

First of all, *You’re, *Dems, *no, *overpriced, and *who. With English skills that bad you are really the only idiot here lol.

Second of all, everything you said had 0 relevance to his comment. If you want to spew bad propaganda at least attempt segue properly.

  • Dude

“Open your ears and mind and listen to Fox news”. You must be trolling or whoring. Only someone with large amounts of brain damage would think that Fox is a good source for news or anything other than garbage really. And don’t try and blame your kindergarten-level English skills on multitasking. You’re just dumb (or at the very least making some really dumb comments)

  • Dude

That stupid phrase doesn’t even work in this context. It’s like:

You – “The earth is flat”
    Me – “That’s incredibly wrong”
    You – “How intolerant”

It like you don’t know what you’re saying. Though I guess you’re kind of right, I’m not tolerating you being a moron.
