A year since going on sale in Europe, Nissan’s all-new Leaf has become the region’s best-selling electric vehicle in 2018.
Nissan says it has already delivered 26,000 units to European customers in the first eight months of this year. That means one Leaf is sold about every 10 minutes across the continent. More than 8,000 of the total have been delivered to corporate fleets, with the rest going to retail customers.

Remarkably, the Japanese model topped European EV sales for every one of the first months of 2018. Nissan has seen strong sales growth in markets such as Austria, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. In Norway, however, the Leaf has become the top-selling passenger car overall in 2018. The EV thus outsold all combustion-powered and electric models alike.

The new Leaf not only features a more attractive design than its predecessor, but also a longer driving range courtesy of the new Lithium-ion 40kWh battery pack. The claimed maximum range is 270 km (168 miles) according to the more realistic WLTP test procedure.

The 2018 Leaf also adds the latest generation of Nissan Intelligent Mobility technology that includes the e-Pedal as well as ProPilot and ProPilot Park semi-autonomous driving and parking systems. Finally, it’s safer than the previous model, with the Euro NCAP awarding it a five-star safety rating under the latest crash test standards.

The compact electric model is currently on sale in 51 markets globally and has posted strong demand all over the world. Combined sales of the first- and second-generation models make the Leaf the best-selling EV worldwide, with more than 350,000 units delivered since 2010.
