Stock Audi RS3 Sedan Is Faster Than A Lambo Gallardo. Wait, What?

Can a stock Audi RS3 Sedan be faster than a bona fide supercar? According to a video shot on New Year’s Day, the answer is, surprisingly (for some at least), yes!

With the ‘Dynamic’ driving mode on and the Launch Control function engaged, this RS3 Sedan turned out to be quicker from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) than the Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2.

The Italian supercar, which preceded the Huracan, needed 3.9 seconds for the run. The RS3 Sedan, on the other hand, with its 400 PS (395 hp / 294 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque 2.5-liter five-pot, needs 4.1 seconds, according to official specs.

So, how did the RS3 Sedan turn out to be faster? We really don’t know, but one plausible explanation is that its all-wheel drive gave it much better traction off the line. Furthermore, the sporty four-door model ran on winter tires and in the wet, that played into its hands against the rear-wheel drive Lambo.

Besides the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) run, the RS3 Sedan’s 0-200 km/h (0-124 mph) and 0-250 km/h (0-155 mph) sprints were measured as well, en route to its top speed which, in this case, was way over 260 km/h (162 mph).

Mind you, all these tests took place in a no-speed-limit zone of a German highway.

Or for around the same price as the RS3 a Tesla Model 3 Performance can get you to 60 in 3.2 seconds.

    • Carlos Gamarra

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm nah RS3 > Model 3, much more fun and sounds good

      • philip d

Sounds good? I wonder which car would be more fun to drive for a deaf person and for those of us who don’t care about sound but rather prefer the quicker car.

        • Loquacious Borborygmus

          Hello darkness my old friend
That Tesla drives me round the bend
          It doesn’t make any noise
Which is is fun for little boys
And the vision that was planted in my head
          Still remains
          Of Elon Musk the pot-head.

          Apologies to S&G.

      • Dude

If you want speed and C63-level fun minus the gears (according to top gear) get a Model 3. If you want fun you get an M2. If you care about sound that’s up to you.

    • Zandit75

      Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

      • philip d

I guess 3.2 seconds to 60 bores you?

        • Zandit75

No, just anything related to Tesla.

          • philip d

Car A is much quicker than car B but man says car A is boring to him. When man is asked why he thinks the quicker car A is boring he says because it is car A.

            Makes sense.

          • TheHake

The Zzzzzzz are the KAK sound it makes.

          • Zandit75

Personal opinion. That’s all it is. I prefer a car with actual luxury, suitable and predictable panel gaps and style. It’s not all about getting from a-b the quickest.

          • Shelby GT500

But Audi RS3 is way more boring than Gallardo and not much quicker

          • Zandit75

To each they’re own. The practicality of four doors and a very usable boot would certainly sway more than one person to go for the RS3…….There’s also the price tag to consider too!! 😛

          • Shelby GT500

Yes, to each they’re own. Someone buys RS3, someone buys used Gallardo and someone buys Tesla 3. One prefers the sound of V10, others need for doors and a trunk (Tesla also has 4 doors and even bigger trunk). I mean I won’t choose Tesla over Gallardo but I think Tesla has its advantages over similarly priced RS3, especially if you look at the fuel consumption on trip computer in this video…

          • Zandit75

I get where you’re coming from, but the RS3 can continue doing those speeds over and over again without having to sit on a charger for several hours waiting for another full re-charge.

          • serge charles

You’ve never driven one. I can tell you that for sure 100% because you would immediately realize how luxurious it feels to be in a completely silent cabin with instant torque. Something Rolls and Bentley spend decades perfecting. and please dont accuse me of comparing rolls royce to telsa. You’re better than that.

          • Zandit75

Of course I haven’t driven one, not many people in Australia have, if at all. I have only seen one Tesla Model S here in Tasmania, as apart from the home power plug, there is next to no infrastructure for them here in Tassie.
Luxurious to me is not just silence, it’s about comfort and engagement with my surroundings. I prefer a tactile environment, not a sterile one, and if I’m driving enthusiastically, I want to hear it too.
The thing that really gets me is fanbois constantly praising Tesla(and Musk for that matter) as being the next messiah. They have not yet provided a car that can match an ICE powered vehicle in all aspects. When I can see one compete on a track for a race that goes for more than 5 laps, then they may start getting my attention. Sure they are quick in a straight line, the never ending videos of the them destroying many super cars holds that up, and is something I have never disputed. Just give it a break for 5mins. People disagree about things all the time, it’s part of human nature.

          • serge charles

and here is the truth, it has nothing to do with the car or how incredible it is that we finally have some competition in the automative space. You just want to cling on to your dead dinosaur juice as if we have an unlimited supply.

          • Zandit75

It’s additional competition in the market, not the one and only.
We already have around 60 brands of automobiles here in Australia. One more brand is not going to shake things up that much, especially when it doesn’t have the infrastructure needed to do that.

The Electric car, regardless of brand, is not a direct replacement for any car on the market today. It cannot, and for the initially foreseeable future, will not replace the ICE powered vehicle for some time, regardless of the sanctions being enforced on car manufacturers today by various governments around the world.

Sure, Tesla is making people take notice, but until they actually start producing vehicles that are affordable to the masses, they won’t make the dent they want to. Not yet anyway.

    • Sébastien

True but it wouldn’t reach 260kph

      • Dude

Top speed is 250kph so it’s not too far off

    • KAG25

And you just lost your gear head button

  • DRIVER SKILL?

    • Bash

      True that.

  • Brian Menius

Shaved 10km off the distance to empty with a single run. Nice.

  • steve

I think those driving gloves made all the difference!

    • Dude

Of course. Have to have the hands looking good for the video.

    • ksegg

      They added 50BHP and 100TQ,

    • Dennis James

Maybe the heater was defective 🙂

  • Haywood Jablowme

I just exploded into my palm.

  • Blade t

Those little gloves Crack me up. If he was going to do some track driving I could understand putting them on.

  • nastinupe

It’s quicker, but not faster. There’s a difference.

  • KAG25

Geo Metro with a bullet bike motor, it has been done

  • DMax

I kept scrolling the video to find the race against the Gallardo… carscoops why you lyin?

  • Zandit75

And so are Tesla’s??!! Do you enjoy digging your own holes??
I’m not going to get into a p*ssing match with yet another blind follower of Musk.

    • philip d

Uh, did you read the comment I was responding to? I wasn’t the one who started bringing up reliability. As if Teslas have occasional manufacturing problems but other manufacturers don’t. I didn’t start that discussion, Akira did.

    • serge charles

So acknowledging that the car is fast makes you a blind follower? Good job grandpa

  • philip d

Your comment is valid that you can make a cheap car quicker with mods. You should direct that angry comment toward the author of this article. The entire premise of this article which I was commenting on was that the author states basically: “look at this cheaper production car (Audi) that is quicker than a production Lambo.”

So direct your anger at the author of this article for not writing that you could also make a Geo Metro quicker with mods than the RS3 rather than at me for making the very same argument you are making when I commented that a similarly priced production Model 3 would also beat the Lambo and also the Audi.

I think I know the reason I was singled out though. I wonder what that could be?

By the way, watch Jeremy drive the Model X. Although he incorporates his usual snark he liked it.

  • Bash

The gallardo is not a very fast car any more to start with.
