2020 Aston Martin DBX Could Get A Drift Mode

The Aston Martin DBX is still a few months away from being unveiled, yet new details about it emerge almost on a constant basis. One of them is the rumored Drift Mode, which could be available in the brand’s first-ever high-riding vehicle.

CarAdvice got the chance to speak to the firm’s senior manager of vehicle dynamics, Ian Hartley, and questioned him whether the SUV could get this function.

“It’s not a difficult question really”, Hartley commented. “It’s a never-say-never thing… Who wouldn’t want to see a drift mode? I am all for drift mode.”

Going sideways in the luxury 4×4 could thus become possible, which should be a blast thanks to the 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8, which was developed by Mercedes-AMG and is also being used in the Vantage.

The lump is expected to pump out 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) and 685 Nm (505 lb-ft) of torque and will be coupled to a permanent all-wheel drive system that’s capable of sending more torque to the rear axle, which will make it quite agile around corners, as well as fun to drive.

Further down the road, Aston’s SUV is thought to gain other powertrains, including a V12 and possible hybrids that will help it take on more established rivals in the segment, such as the Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus, while the V8 model will go against the likes of the Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5.

Production of the DBX, which will be launched before the end of the year, will commence at the St. Athan plant in Wales.
