1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS From RUF Is Very Rare, Very Expensive And We Want It

A 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS Touring modified by RUF Automobiles is looking for a new home on Bring A Trailer and with 11 days left in the auction, has already attracted a highest bid of $200,000.

The exceptionally rare and expensive 911 Carrera 2.7 Touring is one of the most desirable classic 911 models ever. Only 1,580 examples were built and pristine examples have been known to sell for more than $500,000.

Porsche only ever made 185 units of the 911 Carrera 2.7 Touring in Grand Prix White with India Red graphics like this particular example. The listing reveals that the car’s original owner was a personal friend of Alois Ruf and in the 1980s, he commissioned RUF Automobiles to modify the engine to 2.8-liters while also installing revised suspension components and new, lightweight bumpers.

The car spent its first few decades in Europe and was imported to the United States in 2000 by a man named Bruce Harmon. The current seller acquired the car in June 2003 and has added approximately 15,000 miles to it since. It currently has 24,000 miles (~39,000 km) on the clock and will be sold with the owner’s manual, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, the original tool kit, service history records, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Like many other 911 Carrera RS Touring models, this one appears to have been well-maintained and in 2007, the Bosch mechanical fuel injection pump was rebuilt alongside the throttle bodies. More recently, the car’s gearbox was rebuilt and the car had its most recent service in March 2019.

By sure to bookmark the Bring A Trailer auction because we would not be surprised to see the car’s price skyrocket.

i would just buy a cool 911S SWB from the 60’s for 100k and then send it to Ruf and add 200k in mods ^__^
cheaper and my car would be unique too.

really don’t understand the obsession for these old Porsches. It’s like the story of the Emperor and his new clothes. People just can’t see them for what they are – basic inside, lacking in luxuries (especially the ones from the 50s and 60s), noisy, and, in some cases, ugly. The 359 looks like a toad riding on side plates or a flattened Beetle. They’re not even particularly quick with their beetle derived engines and, given their position, they handle poorly especially in the wet. For the money of a Carrera, I can think of far superior cars – like an Aston DB6, a Mercedes 280SE 3.5 convertible, the rarest corvette stingray, the less exclusive Maseratis and Ferraris and the list goes on.
