It is no secret that there will be at least one hybrid version of the new Chevrolet Corvette. Could it be hiding under those prototypes?
TFLnow recently stumbled upon a pair of C8 Corvette prototypes bathed in camouflage. This is quite interesting, because Chevrolet has already launched the car officially since mid-July. Are those some of the test mules used previously, or something more?
The most eye-catching aspect of these two is that they have thick orange cables sticking out of their hoods, a tell-tail sign that they, more likely than not, feature some form of electrification that’s been made possible by the GM Global B architecture that underpins the new ‘Vette.

Reports about future versions of the Corvette have been rife in recent weeks, with one recent report claiming that the upcoming Z06 will be powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 with a flat-plane crank and approximately 800 hp and 700 lb-ft (959 Nm) of torque. It will not utilize any form of electrification, though, but rely on a conventional, yet modern-spec, internal combustion engine
Chevrolet will allegedly sell the new Corvette with a hybrid powertrain in only one configuration, likely the all-new ZR1 . Reports leading up to the unveiling of the C8 indicated this model could utilize a twin-turbo V8 supplemented by an electric motor to pump out roughly 1000 HP. While it is impossible to tell if these prototypes are early testers for that model, it is quite obvious that Chevrolet enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to in the coming few years.
