Trump Vanity Plate Rejected By Swedish Authorities Who Deemed It “Offensive”

President Trump has made a number of controversial statements about immigrants, woman and people of color. This has earned him a lot of enemies, including one at a rather unusual location – the Swedish Transport Agency.

According to the Associated Press, Marcus Saaf applied for a “TRUMP” vanity plate for his American-made car. However, he was rejected because the agency deemed it “offensive.”

Aftonbladet reported the news over the weekend and wrote that Saaf was drunk and thought it would be funny to apply for the Trump vanity plate. News of the rejection quickly spread and the AP reached out to the Swedish Transport Agency to confirm the story was indeed true.

The government agency confirmed the plate was rejected, but softened their tone this time around. Instead of saying the Trump name was offensive, a spokesperson told the AP that it doesn’t allow plates that reference politics. The publication also says Saaf was told he couldn’t appeal the ruling.

Given that Saaf came up with the idea on a whim while drinking, he doesn’t seem too upset about the ruling. As he told Aftonbladet, “Now, in retrospect, I understand” that the plate could be perceived as offensive. He went on to say, he’ll just keep his current plate.

While it’s not unusual for governments to deny vulgar or offensive license plates, originally calling the Trump name offensive certainly raised a number of eyebrows.

For what its worth, anyone outside the 50 States of North America has no reason for offence or to take issue with the internal politics of another country. Offence is a marxist catchcry for the new millenia, it means nothing, its totally subjective and why should we pander to the lowest denominator of our society.

So some anonymous hypothetical statistic may be offended. What’s going to happen if they are…..will their heads explode??

I’m not American, I don’t live in America and he’s not my President.
(And ….. I couldn’t give a rats arse if he was)

    • roy

Internal affairs of other countries are none of the business for the rest of world.
Keep dreaming. Because guess what? Unless the affairs are very local in nature, the questionable decisions of one country’s leader can and will affect the rest of the world.

What a bunch of disgusting hypocrites!!!

Last year, Swedish authorities allowed a Romanian migrant to get a very offensive license plate for Romanians, and when the political party affected by filed a formal complaint (that guy came back to Romania with those offensive license plates, causing quite a stir), they invoked all sorts of reasons like freedom of movement and freedom of expression.

  • ThatGuy

This article is by some “woke” dude to stir the pot on a car blog.
Like many car things personalised number plates are such a 90ies thing, no one cares.

    • Emoto

The haters cannot seem to contain themselves. They feel compelled to bloviate about President Trump. I expect this will continue all through his second term in office.

  • Can I say something?

    • brn

Maybe. Check with the Swedes first.

  • Joe

I lived in Sweden for 2 years until very recently. There was no evidence of this war of daily murders, bombings and shootings – yes there was a couple of incidents, but nothing like the ridiculous stuff being invented by Trump. This was made up by right wing propaganda to scare Americans and others in the Western world into discriminating against minorities.

  • Stigasawuswrecks

    Hahaha!

  • roy

Well you’re right about me hating trump wont do shot about him being the president or not.
Also I don’t hate trump but widely disagree with him. Plus my disagreement is with him, the person and that has nothing to do with him being the president

  • Joe

Bullshit, I 100% lived in Sweden, in Malmo which Trump and everyone else said was basically a warzone. The right extreme propaganda is 100% a lie. There are not daily hand grenade incidents and shootings.

You must be thinking of an actual warzone.

  • EyalN

Sweden is a joke. Isis took over big part of Sweden.
UPS got a list of cities in Sweden that they don’t deliver to because it became so dangerous.
Trump needs to send the army to save Sweden

  • Joe

“Joe is lying” as your name.
You’ve gone to an AWFUL lot of trouble here. Get a life.

All that wiki page shows is that what I said is true. I lived there 2016-18, and again for a bit in 2019.
2018 lists 5 incidents. 2019 lists 0 incidents. If they were daily, even with reasonable assumption some days wouldn’t have them, there’d be over 300.
Granted, 2017 had more and 2016 (peak of 40) seems to have a heavily concentrated summer before I arrived. Yet still, none of that shows that it is daily, and it doesn’t show that it’s a tangible risk to the general public that needs to be constantly worried about.
Of course I knew of a few incidents, and the rate of them occurring during the time I was there is so far away from being daily that all you’ve done is demonstrate you’re overhyping.
There have been more mass shootings in the US so far this year than there have been days.
