Apex: The Secret Race Across America will start by recalling the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Seat Memorial Trophy Dash, better known as the Cannonball Run, that was held repeatedly throughout the 1970s and aimed to see who could drive across the United States the fastest. Ultimately superseding the Cannonball Run was the U.S. Express event organized in the 1980s and in 1983, a record of 32 hours and 7 minutes was set.

This record stood for more than two decades until it was broken in October 2006 by Alex Roy in a BMW M5 with a time of 31 hours of 4 minutes. The film will take a deep dive into Roy’s infamous run, even though it is no longer the fastest time set for a coast-to-coast run.

Not only will the film look at Roy’s run but it will also take a more detailed look at the coast-to-coast races held in the 1970s and 1980s. Apex: The Secret Race Across America will be narrated by Ice-T.
