Following on from the strong reception enjoyed by the 2019 Colorado ZR2 Bison, Chevrolet has announced that it will increase production of the 2020 model.

Speaking with Muscle Cars and Trucks recently, the marketing manager for American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) that makes the off-road-focused parts for the ZR2 Bison, Matt Feldermann, confirmed the news.

“Capacity will be increased for 2020. They are going to increase production. We’re not sure what the exact number is… but maybe 2,500,” he said.

Chevrolet and American Expedition Vehicles only allocated 2,000 units of the ZR2 Bison for the 2019 model year and these vehicles were snapped up by dealerships much faster than expected, prompting the two companies to boost production for 2020. Feldermann, however, stresses that it is important production isn’t bumped up too much.

“If it was up to me, I’d very cautious with how far you’d increase Bison volume…” he added. “You wouldn’t want to make the jump to, say, 6,000 units and get real aggressive because the last thing you want is to have half of them unsold at the end of the model year, and then next year the dealers won’t want one.”

Among the off-road parts the Colorado ZR2 Bison is equipped with are front and rear locking differentials, Multimatic dampers, bespoke skid plates, flared arches, and stamped steel bumpers that can support a winch. AEV recently announced that it intends on making the mid-size pickup even more capable off-road with the availability of 35-inch tires and higher clearance fenders.
