Porsche is teaming up with Lucasfilm for the creation of a new starship design that will debut at the world premiere of the latest Star Wars film called “The Rise of Skywalker”.

The Porsche design team has the challenging task of creating a starship featuring the brand’s design DNA, but Michael Mauer, VP of Style Porsche, believes that this is a great exercise for both his team and Lucasfilm.

“Even though they do not seem to share many elements at first glance, both worlds have a similar design philosophy,” said Mauer. “The close collaboration with the Star Wars design team inspires and fascinates us – I’m sure that both sides can draw major benefits from this exchange.”

The new space craft will get “a future role in the Star Wars galaxy”, says Porsche. The two design teams will meet regularly over the coming weeks in Stuttgart and San Francisco in order to finalize the design and create a corresponding model of the Porsche starship.

“We are bringing together two worlds with this project: the exotic film design of a galaxy far, far away and the precision work that goes into developing emotive Porsche sports cars,” said Doug Chiang, Vice President and Executive Creative Director of Lucasfilm. “This collaboration promises to produce an innovative design that will blend the best of both brands to create an exciting new starship worthy of Porsche and Star Wars.”

The new Porsche starship will be revealed at the “Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker” premiere in December, where the car maker will also be showcasing the Taycan, the brand’s first electric model.
