A few years ago, most automakers started offering small SUVs as an alternative to the subcompact and compact hatchbacks. Now, they’ve started electrifying them too.

Peugeot is one of the companies that want to tempt you into going electric with the new generation 2008 which, for the first time, is offered as a BEV and gets the e-2008 designation.

It packs a 136 horsepower electric motor that drives the front wheels and a 50 kWh battery pack that supports 100 kW fast charging and promises a range of 193 miles (310 km) in the WLTP test cycle. Should you find a fast charger, then you’re looking at a range of 100 miles (161 km) in around 20 minutes; plug it into the 7 kW socket, though, and charging becomes an overnight process.

In terms of looks, there’s not much complaining to do. The new e-2008 has a modern and edgy design, and the typical Peugeot interior sports the brand’s signature i-Cockpit design. The build quality is good and so is space at the back for two adult occupants, although three would be a crowd.

As for how it drives, well, the throttle response in Eco mode is sluggish, but it gets better in Normal and Sport. Moreover, the car has regenerative braking and a rather hard suspension setup, especially on 18-inch wheels.

All in all, is the e-2008 a compelling package or should you check out what the competition has to offer? The video review shared below should help you make up your mind.
