General Motors used the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show to unveil the Chevrolet Bolt and it appears the company was hoping to use the upcoming show to introduce another electric vehicle.

Speaking with Motor Trend, GM’s senior vice president of global communications said the company was planning to unveil something at CES but “we could not get the models done that we wanted to get done with the [UAW] strike.” Tony Cervone went on to say the company decided not to the cross picket lines to get the vehicle ready in time.

While the automaker “worked like hell” to complete the mystery model, things didn’t work out and the vehicle wasn’t ready. GM CEO Mary Barra told the publication that “We want to do it right because we’ve got a very powerful story to tell.”  In order to tell that story properly, the model will now debut in the first half of 2020.

GM won’t say what the vehicle is, but Barra hinted it was electric and autonomous. A vehicle from Cruise would be a natural candidate, but they have an event scheduled for next month in San Francisco. As a result, the publication believes GM was planning to show Cadillac’s electric crossover.

That remains unconfirmed, but it would check off both boxes as the model would be electric and presumably feature the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system. However, back in November, GM’s vice president of electric and autonomous vehicle programs suggested the crossover would debut “a little more than a year from now.”

Of course, we’ll see the mystery model pretty soon as the strike only lasted 40 days and it sounds like the vehicle is almost ready.
