Toyota is developing a lunar rover with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, and appears Lexus has gotten a bit jealous as a handful of their designers have come up with their own take on space exploration.
One of the most bizarre is the Zero Gravity concept which was created by Karl Dujardin. Looking like something out of the first Avengers’ movie, the Zero Gravity is a motorcycle-inspired spacecraft with a Z-like body. According to the company, the model was designed to give the driver “total control while gliding smoothly over the rough and bumpy lunar service, even at speeds estimated up to 311 mph (500 km/h).”
Cosmos
Moving on, Jean-Baptiste Henry’s Cosmos is probably the most interesting as it features a rear cockpit and a large glass observatory. However, it’s just one part of a larger “Leuxs Mothership” as the massive spacecraft has a domed shield, living modules, a docking station, a cargo area and a futuristic engine.
Bouncing Moon Roller
Julien Marie’s Bouncing Moon Roller goes in an entirely different direction and sort of resembles the Gyrosphere from Jurassic World. However, it’s billed as a graphene nanotube-based bubble with a cockpit that sits in the center of a gyroscope cell.
Lunar Cruiser
The Lunar Cruiser, from Keisuke Matsuno, is a far more conventional and wouldn’t look out of place at an auto show. Despite its somewhat ordinary appearance, Lexus says the wheels can turn 90 degrees so the vehicle can fly like a drone.
Moon Racer
Lastly, Yung Presciutti came up with three different vehicles known as the Lunar, Lunar Mission and Moon Racer. The latter is a essentially a single seat race car with a canopy-like cockpit and unique tires which enable the Moon Racer to climb, jump and race across the lunar surface.
