2021 Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series Shows More Of Its Dark Side

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is about to face some stiff competition from the Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series, as development of the supercar has entered what is believed to be the final testing phase.

Last time we saw it, the camouflage was thicker and some elements were either not present or different. This time though, the model was photographed with less vinyl stickers, exposing more of its aggressive makeover.

Starting with the front, we can see that the headlights are different and sport new graphics. Further down, the bumper has made room for deeper side air intakes and the apron seems to have been modded. The hood has power domes and more cutouts, while the rear end continues to be dominated by a huge wing. The bumper, diffuser and quad exhaust pipes look the same, but the taillights have been darkened.

New suspension, brakes and tires that stick to the tarmac will be part of the build, while a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 will still rest under that long hood. The engine however, will be tuned to produce more than the outgoing GT R and GT R Pro, where it makes 577 HP, and it is understood that it will develop around 700 horsepower.

When combined with the improved aerodynamics, the GT R Black Series will be able to sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in roughly 3 seconds. The GT R and GT R Pro can do it in 3.6 seconds and have a maximum speed of 198 mph (318 km/h).

Unless the coronavirus pandemic interferes with the German brand’s plans, we expect Mercedes-AMG to present it before the end of the year, as the supercar should enter the brand’s 2021MY lineup.
