Earlier this month, our spy photographers captured an undisguised prototype of the all-new Volkswagen Golf R testing at the Nurburgring, and now, we found the video that goes with it.

Shared at the bottom of the page, it shows a white-finished example attacking the apexes at full pace. And while it may look pretty darn fast, it seems like the German company still has to make the engine sound meatier.

Like its predecessor that builds on the Mk7 generation of the Golf, the 2021 Golf R will still use a 2.0-liter four-pot. However, the engine will be tuned to produce around 330 horsepower, according to previous reports, and it will be matched to a dual-clutch automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive system.

In its most potent form, the Golf R Mk7 came with 310 PS (306 HP / 228 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. When equipped with the dual-clutch auto ‘box, the pre-WLTP era version of the hot hatch was capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in a little under 5 seconds, or just over 5 seconds with the six-speed manual transmission. Expect more impressive performance numbers from the new one.

The lowered suspension, big brakes, large wheels a rather discreet body kit for what is the range-topping version of the new-gen Golf lineup will further set it apart from the rest of the range.

Inside, it will should add a couple of bucket seats at the front, Alcantara upholstery and aluminum and carbon fiber trim, in addition to the R badges.

The 2021 Golf R will reportedly premiere this summer.
