Hyundai’s smallest and cheapest crossover sold in the United States, the 2020 Venue, is proving to be more successful with young buyers and women.

While Hyundai’s press blurb has a funny title (“Hyundai’s All-New 2020 Venue Appeals to Young Buyers and Females with Desirable Features and Iconic Modern Design”), it paints an interesting picture.

Based on a first quarter internal buyer study, more than half of Hyundai Venue buyers in the U.S. belong to Gen Z (people born between 1995 and 2015) and Gen Y or Millenials (people born between 1980 and 1994). These two categories make up a combined 64 percent of 2020 Venue buyers.

The fact that a new vehicle with a low MSRP of $18,490 (including $1,140 destination) attracts young buyers is not really a surprise, considering that Millenials and Gen Z people typically have lower incomes that Gen X folks (born between 1965 and 1979) and Baby Boomers (1944-1964).

What is more interesting is that the Venue is very popular with female buyers, who account for 63 percent (or over two thirds) of sales. This makes the subcompact crossover a real stand-out among Hyundai’s lineup.

The 2020 Hyundai Venue offers complimentary maintenance for 3 years or 36,000 miles (58,000 km) and a 5-year / 60,000-mile (96,500-km) new vehicle limited warranty – in addition to the 10-year / 100,000-mile (161,000-km) powertrain limited warranty.

The crossover offers a comprehensive standard equipment. Convenience features include a 3.5-in TFT instrument cluster display, rearview monitor, 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone, and first-row USB charge port. A multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, automatic headlights, air conditioning, and remote keyless entry are also standard.

The Hyundai SmartSense safety suite is standard as well and includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping Assist and Driver Attention Warning, Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) with Traction Control as well as front, side and head curtain airbags.

Power comes from a 121 HP Smartstream 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine mated to a standard manual or an optional CVT. All Venue models are front-wheel drive.
