If you know a thing or two about cars and BMWs in particular, then you know that the M3 CSL is one of the best, with only a single drawback: the controversial SMG II gearbox, which was the only transmission available for the model.

Part of the E46 generation of the M3, which was made between 2000 and 2006, it was powered by a 3.2-liter inline-six making 338 HP in European specification and 333 HP in the U.S. It also boasted a lightweight construction, perfect 50:50 weight distribution and tuned suspension and brakes.

While the flappy paddle gearbox did not do justice to this otherwise great car, the 355 HP and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque produced by the engine provided a great balance between power and handling. The nought to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) was dispatched in just under 5 seconds and top speed was 155 mph (250 km/h).

One of only 1,383 produced, the Silver Grey metallic-finished example pictured here is for sale by SilverstoneAuctions. It’s been included in their online auction that takes place between July 31 and August 2, comes in right-hand drive and has only 9,000 miles (14,484 km) on the odo.

Unfortunately, the auction house hasn’t released more images, but they did say that they will drop more shortly. They also didn’t announce the estimated selling price of the car, yet the finest examples tend to reach six-digit figures, which is almost new Porsche 911 money.
