Not long after its online reveal, the facelifted 2021 BMW M5 has been announced for Australia where it will be exclusively sold in Competition guise.

The updated M5 Competition benefits from the same overall design changes as the rest of the new 5-Series family. That means it features more angular and aggressive headlights as well as a tweaked front grille and new taillights.

In the cabin, a series of changes have been made, although none of them are particularly huge. The familiar 12.3-inch infotainment system has been retained and now supports Android Auto and cloud-based navigation. The revamped M5 also benefits from revised upholstery and an updated center console with two new buttons providing access to vehicle settings and the ‘M’ mode.

Like the pre-facelift model, the 2021 M5 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that is good for 617 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) in Competition guise, allowing the super sedan to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.3 seconds, thanks in no small part to the advanced all-wheel drive system and launch control. In other markets, the ‘entry-level’ M5 is rated at 592 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm).

All 2021 BMW M5 Competition models sold in Australia will come standard with heaps of features that are optional overseas. For example, the M Driver’s Package comes standard, and so do the M sport exhaust, carbon engine cover, carbon roof, and a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound system with 16 speakers.

Local pricing starts at AU$244,900 (US$172,177), with deliveries kicking off in October.
