Porsche is putting the finishing touches on the facelifted Panamera and a juicy rumor suggests the company might have attempted to set a new Nürburgring lap record.

Nothing is official, but our spy photographer heard Porsche was aiming to set a new record with the Panamera Turbo. It was also rumored that the company had an official lined up to verify the lap time.

They rushed to the track to snap photos, but missed the “quick laps.” However, the car was still on the track doing a photo shoot and these pictures would presumably accompany an announcement about a new lap record.

Everyone was tight-lipped about what happened, so it’s unclear if the car managed to break the record or if there was even a record attempt in the first place.

Of course, a record attempt wouldn’t be too surprising as the current Panamera Turbo was the “fastest luxury sedan on earth” back in 2016. At time, the car lapped the green hell in 7 minutes and 38 seconds.

That record has fell as the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio lapped the Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 32 seconds several months later. However, it appears Porsche wants the record back.

The company hasn’t said much about the facelifted model, but it will feature an evolutionary design with a host of barely noticeable changes. Among them are modified bumpers and updated taillights.

Under the hood, the Panamera Turbo should feature an upgraded twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8. There’s no word on how much it will produce, but the current model is rated at 542 hp (404 kW / 550 PS) and 567 lb-ft (769 Nm) of torque.
