Like they did with the Silver Arrows in Formula 1, Mercedes has given its Formula E cars an all-black base livery for the remainder of the season.

Their purpose is to take a stand against racism and all forms of discrimination, while also advocating greater diversity. With that in mind, the slogan “End Racism” is prominently displayed on the halos of Stoffel Vandoorne’s and Nyck de Vries’ cars.

This way, on the weekend of 8/9 August, all four Formula 1 and Formula E Mercedes cars will line up on the grid rocking all-black liveries.

“We have always spoken out clearly against racism and all forms of discrimination, as they do not have a place in our team, in our sport or in our society,” said Mercedes EQ team boss Ian James. “However, recent events around the world have shown that we all need to do more to use our platform to speak out against racism and discrimination. As part of the Mercedes-Benz Motorsport family, we’re sending out a clear signal for change.”

Mercedes knows that these types of changes cannot happen overnight, and have accepted that this is merely the beginning of a long process in which everyone on the team will have to face many challenges.

“We know that we have to invest a lot of time and commitment in order to develop the right strategy,” he added. “We have started work on it for our outfit and will conduct the way our team acts accordingly.”

The team’s ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life in cities in a sustainable manner. This means supporting diversity and integration programs that prove effective at a local level.
