While the Honda S2000 was never designed with drag racing in mind, there is a modified S2K in the United States with the performance to blow the doors off all modern-day supercars.

Under the hood, this S2000 continues to pack the F22 four-cylinder engine and retains its factory block and crankshaft. To bump up the power, it has been fitted with aftermarket rods and pistons, new cams, and a 67.9 mm turbocharger. All up, it is said to have over 1,000 hp at the rear wheels.

The Honda’s standard six-speed manual transmission would have no hope of surviving all this added power, so it has been ditched in favor of a six-speed Quaife sequential gearbox. The tuned S2K features a carbon fiber driveshaft and the rear differential of a Nissan 300ZX.

While attending a recent drag racing event, the Honda topped out at an impressive 199.6 mph (321.2 km/h) down the half-mile. That is comfortably the record for an S2000, and while the owner wasn’t quite able to hit his target of 200 mph, he came very, very close.

Making this S2000 even more impressive is the fact that the owner drives the car on the street and to and from work. It can also sprint down the quarter-mile in the low 8-second range, something no current production car can even come close to matching.
