Ford recently kicked off the teaser campaign for the Bronco Warthog, but now we’re getting a better look at the upcoming off-roader.

Looking undeniably rugged, the Bronco wears 17-inch forged aluminum wheels which are bead-lock capable and have been sourced from the F-150 Raptor where they’re an $1,895 option.

The wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires and Ford has previously revealed they measure 37-inches. As we noted at the time, this suggests the model has a hardcore suspension as the ‘standard’ Bronco runs into “clearance issues” when equipped with tires that are larger than 35-inches.

To get around this, the Warthog will dip into the Raptor goodie bag and adopt Fox shocks just like the full-size pickup. The model also has an upgraded suspension which largely eschews lightweight aluminum components.

On the styling front, there isn’t much to report as the prototype is heavily camouflaged. However, we can see a front skid plate and makeshift extended fender flares.

While Jeep is preparing a V8-powered Wrangler, Ford engineers have downplayed the possibility of a V8 Bronco due to emission regulations and the performance of the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 which develops 310 hp (231 kW / 314 PS) and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) of torque.

However, speculation suggests the Warthog will use a 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 from the Explorer ST. It packs 400 hp (298 kW /406 PS) and 415 lb-ft (562 Nm) of torque, which is a sizable improvement over the smaller EcoBoost engine.

Of course, we’ll probably have to wait months before we find out as the standard Bronco won’t arrive at dealerships until next spring.
