The all-new W223 Mercedes S-Class is scheduled to arrive in the U.S. early next year, retailing from $109,800 in S 500 4MATIC spec that comes with air suspension, a panoramic glass sunroof, 19-inch alloys, LED lights and more as standard.
This version happens to be the one that AutoTopNL just took for a high-speed run on the Autobahn in Germany, accelerating the luxury saloon all the way to its electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
Powering the new S 500 is a mild hybrid turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 429 HP (320 kW / 435 PS) and 384 lb-ft (521 Nm) of torque. Its EQ Boost function adds another 21 HP and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque to aid acceleration.

Thanks to its 4MATIC all-wheel drive system, this S-Class needs just 4.9 seconds in order to hit 62 mph (100 km/h), which is impressive for a vehicle this size and weight. Of course, this video is more about how smoothly it accelerates at high-speed, maxing out at 155 mph pretty much effortlessly.
In case you need even better performance, short of waiting for the AMG models, you might want to look at the S 580 4MATIC, which is powered by a 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 producing 496 HP (370 kW / 503 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. This one also comes with an EQ Boost function and starts at $116,300.
Meanwhile, those who want more luxury can opt for the Mercedes-Maybach variants, with customers able to purchase either a mild-hybrid version or a plug-in hybrid, depending on the market.
