E.C.D. Automotive Design, a Land Rover customizing shop from Florida, has just wrapped up work on its first electric conversion. The Range Rover Classic can now hit 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds thanks to an electric drivetrain borrowed from a Tesla.

To achieve the conversion, E.C.D. partnered with the UK’s Electric Classic Cars for help with sourcing the drivetrain. From there, it spent 2,200 hours making this the perfect restomodded Ranger Rover.

“It was important to us to expand our offerings into the electric market,” said Tom Humble founder of E.C.D. “Now that we have finished the Electric Range Rover Classic we’re going to continue to innovate and electrify Defenders and other Land Rovers.”

It must be said, it looks pretty good. And that’s thanks no doubt to the extent of E.C.D.’s work and its restraint in design. The shop says it wanted to keep as much of the classic Range Rover look as possible, despite the transformative work it was undertaking.

The shop stripped the Range Rover down completely, wet sanding it to make the exterior look perfect. As you might expect, though, there was a thorough upgrade of the SUV’s electric system that extended beyond simply the powertrain.

Several upgrades came from the work, including a new state-of-the-art audio system and an in-dash navigation system. It also gets Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, and a backup camera to keep the bumpers smooth.

The team also took time upgrading the tan leather upholstery and dark wood interior accents. E.C.D. even added a drinks cabinet at the back.

Tesla Power

As for the drivetrain, the Range Rover Classic now features a 100 kWh battery pack that’s good for an estimated 220 miles of range and a 0-60 spring of 5.2 seconds thanks to its 450 bhp motor. That’s pretty spritely for an SUV like this.

It’s finished in Alpine White, which pops against the black grille and accents. It rides on 18-inch Land Rover Boost 5 Spoke wheels.

This one was a commission for a client but E.C.D. indicates that it will continue to make more electric Range Rovers and Land Rovers for its clients, though no prices were mentioned.
