Elon Musk announced that Tesla will hold a delivery event for the first production examples of the much-awaited Model S Plaid, the new range-topping version of its electric saloon.

The event will take place on June 3 at Tesla’s California Gigafactory, with Elon Musk stating on Twitter that the new Model S Plaid will be the “fastest production car ever” with a 0-60 mph in under 2 seconds.

The new Model S Plaid will employ three high-performance electric motors with carbon-sleeved rotors producing a combined 1,020 HP. Tesla claims that the most powerful Model S is also capable of traveling an estimated 390 miles (627 km) on a full charge and complete the quarter-mile in 9.23 seconds, but if that’s not enough for you, there’s always the Plaid+ variant.

The Plaid+ version of the Model S comes with even more power from its three electric motors, at over 1,100 HP, which drops the quarter-mile time to under 9 seconds. It can also travel over 520 miles (836 km) on a full charge and hit a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h), always according to Tesla. Test cars have been recently spotted at Laguna Seca, and reports suggest that they might have set an EV record.

Among the many upgrades, Tesla has also said during their annual financial presentation for 2020 that they added a new heat pump to the new Plaid models, allowing the car to run five times as many quarter-mile runs than previously possible.

Prices for the new Model S Plaid start from $119,990, while the more powerful Plaid+ starts from $149,990, excluding a $1,200 destination fee.

Tesla said previously that deliveries for the new Model S Plaid and Plaid+ will begin late this year, but we expect to learn more details at the event.
