The Goodwood Festival of Speed was back with a bang over the weekend and during the Timed Shootout on the final day, some seriously impressive times were set up the hillclimb.

Bringing up the rear of the top 10 fastest times during the Timed Shootout was a Toyota Corolla race car used in the British Touring Car Championship, setting a time of 53.89 seconds. Also featured in the Timed Shootout was a Holden Commodore V8 Supercar from Australia that set a best time of 53.13 seconds.

Some of the other cars featured in the top 10 were a Sauber-Mercedes C9 Le Mans racer, a Ford Escort Cosworth, a Praga R1, a modified Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R from HKS, a brand new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, and a Spice-Cosworth SE88.

Battling it out for top honors was the Subaru WRX STI Gymkhana car driven by none other than Travis Pastrana and a potent McLaren 720S GT3X. Pastrana’s car is an absolute animal off the line and despite being designed to get sideways and fly through the air, it set a storming time of 46.20. However, that wasn’t enough to claim top honors.

While the McLaren 720S GT3X initially struggled to put its power to the ground at the start, the huge downforce it delivers helped it through the rest of the hillclimb. With Rob Bell behind the wheel, it set a best time of 45.01.

The fastest ever time up the Goodwood hillclimb was set in 2019 by Romain Dumas in the all-electric VW I.D. R at 39.9 seconds, smashing the long-standing 41.6 second record of Nick Heidfeld set in 1999 in a McLaren MP4/13 Formula 1 car.
