The Hyundai Ioniq 5 doesn’t just look good but as Rory Reid from AutoTrader says in a new review, it is an excellent car to drive.

While the Ioniq 5 isn’t the first electric vehicle from Hyundai, it is its most impressive and the first that could be considered as a legitimate rival to what Tesla is producing. Heck, it’s no wonder that the car has quickly racked up numerous industry awards.

Reid starts off his review with a look at the exterior styling which he appears to be particularly fond of. He is also a fan of the interior that includes a large 12-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12-inch infotainment system. He also highlights innovative features such as the glovebox which is actually a drawer, and the center console that can slide forward and back thanks to the flat floor. The driver’s seat can also fold down to the point where it is almost completely flat.

Then there’s the driving experience. While the Ioniq 5 hasn’t been marketed as being as sporty as the Tesla Model Y, Reid does enjoy the way that it drives, noting that the steering is light and precise and that the driving position is good. However, he does note that because of the 3-meter wheelbase, the Ioniq 5 could benefit from having a rear-wheel steering system to reduce the turning circle.

Reid tested out the flagship 72 kWh model and noted that, thanks to this battery, it will easily travel 300 miles (482 km) on a single charge without breaking a sweat.
