The I-75 freeway near Troy, Michigan was closed in both directions on Monday following a massive fire that started after a fuel tanker truck hit a concrete median. Fortunately, the driver was able to get away from the accident with only minor injuries and no one else was hurt in this incident.

Video of massive towers of billowing black smoke and fire were posted to the internet as firefighters struggled to put the fire out. By the time it was extinguished, all that remained of the truck were the wheels and the bottom half of the tanker that was carrying 14,000 gallons of fuel at the time of the crash, per Troy police.

A spokesperson for the Michigan Department of Transportation told Fox 2 Detroit that it might take days to remove the debris from the accident completely and for the fuel to be cleaned up. The tanker itself was too hot to tow away immediately after the fire was put out. They added that the section of freeway that was under the fire may have to be torn up and rebuilt; MDOT engineers are currently in the process of investigating the status of the concrete.

Although exactly what prompted the accident is unclear, video shared by the Troy Police Department shows the tanker drifting from the right-hand lane across another lane, nearly colliding with another vehicle, and eventually crashing into the barrier and erupting in flames.
