Two trucks recently crashed in the city of Brno in the Czech Republic and the terrifying incident was caught on dashcam.

The crash happened on March 10 along the D2 highway near the city at roughly 8:15 a.m. Dashcam footage leading up to the crash shows that the driver of a large truck was quickly closing up to the rear of a fuel tanker traveling along the right-most lane of the highway.

Mere seconds after the two trucks come into view, the second truck shows no signs of braking and slams into the rear of the tanker. What’s particularly shocking is how the cab of the truck crumples from the impact. The two trucks continued to travel up the motorway for roughly a hundred feet before coming to a stop.

Images published by local news outlet Denik.cz show the full extent of the damage with one image appearing to show emergency crews pulling the driver from the smashed cab. The incident cracked the windshield, crumpled much of the bodywork and looks to have also caused some suspension damage. As for the tanker, it was left with a big dent in the rear of the tank while the bumper was also ripped off. Fortunately, it didn’t explode.

The condition of the driver in the second truck remains unclear. It’s also difficult to determine what triggered the crash although it seems possible the driver was distracted and not looking ahead.

All trucks should come with automatic emergency braking systems

This incident is yet another stark reminder why governments around the world should make collision mitigation braking system for trucks and other large vehicles mandatory – not that it would have made a difference in this instance, as these measures are not retroactive, but regulators need to plan ahead.
