Volkswagen will reportedly sell three different variants of the upcoming ID.BUZZ.

The all-electric van has been a long time coming and it is understood that in Europe, it will be available as a six-seater aimed at ‘ride-pooling’ services, Auto News understands. It is reported that the rear seats will be individually accessible and the ride-pooling focused version of the ID.BUZZ will have a separate information screen for each passenger.

In the U.S., the ID.BUZZ will be offered as a ride-hailing model with four seats at the rear, two of which will face forward and two that will face toward the rear of the van.

The commercial variant will be targeted towards parcel delivery companies and like the ride-pooling and ride-hailing models, will also come equipped with a Level 4 autonomous driving system.

While speaking about the cargo-focused version of the ID.BUZZ during VW’s Strategy 2030 presentation on July 13, VW’s head of development for autonomous driving, Christian Senger, said a self-driving model will eliminate the need for a human driver when the tech is introduced in 2025.

“Our answer is autonomous delivery vans for the distribution networks of tomorrow, where delivery workers no longer need driver’s licenses and become passengers who focus on their loads and the order of deliveries,” he said.

Spy photographers have snapped the ID.BUZZ undergoing tests on a handful of occasions in recent months, confirming that it will share some design similarities with the original concept. A number of different battery packs will be offered ranging from 48 kWh to 111 kWh.

European sales of the VW ID.BUZZ will start next year, while it in the U.S. it will become available in 2023.
