The 2022 Toyota 4Runner family has grown with the introduction of the new TRD Sport.

The 4Runner TRD Sport joins the TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro models but whereas those two come standard with a host of trail-ready features, the TRD Sport is more focused towards on-road performance.

With this in mind, Toyota has equipped the 4Runner TRD Sport with a Cross-Linked Relative Absorber System (X-REAS) suspension to improve its on-road handling. This system automatically adjusts the damping force of the shock absorbers when driving over bumpy surfaces or when cornering and is also used by the 4Runner Limited. Customers will be able to choose between 2WD or part-time 4WD with a two-speed transfer case, with the 2WD model providing 9.0 inches (228.6 mm) of ground clearance and the 4WD 9.6 inches (243.8 mm).

A number of styling tweaks also distinguish the 4Runner TRD Sport from other variants. For example, it features color-keyed accents on the grille, rocker panels, and body molding. There is also a TRD-style hood scoop, black roof rails, and a front skid plate.

Found in the cabin are black SofTex-trimmed seats with a heated function up front and gray contrast stitching, while the headrests have gray TRD stitched logos. There are also TRD Sport floor mats, a TRD shift knob, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and an 8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa compatibility.

Toyota has made some other updates across the 4Runner family for 2022. For example, the TRD Pro is now available in a bright color dubbed Lime Rush as well as Super White, Magnetic Gray Metallic, and Midnight Black Metallic. All 2022 models also add a Rear Occupancy Alert feature.

Powering all 2022 Toyota 4Runner models is a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated V6 with 270 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque.
