Good morning and welcome to our weekly digest of automotive news from around the globe, starting with…

Geneva Motor Show Canceled For Third Year Running

The Geneva Motorshow has been canceled for the third year running. Why? You’ve probably guessed it: the pandemic and the resultant travel restrictions. However, the organizers also cited the chip crisis that has put pressure on OEM’s financials. Plans to host a spin-off show in Doha, Qatar, in late 2022 or 2023 appear to be unchanged, though it seems likely that the 2022 option could now be in doubt.

New Honda Civic Type R Official Teaser Confirms Large Rear Wing And Triple Exhaust Pipes, Will Launch In 2022

Earlier this week we were treated with a couple of official pictures showing a camouflaged Civic Type R prototype. Although still sporty and aggressive, the looks appear to have been dialed back a bit. The Type R will feature a turbo VTEC engine similar to the outgoing car and is rumored to be Honda’s last pure ICE-powered model sold in Europe. After the official shots had flooded the web, our spies managed to snap a few more pics of the car in the same special livery, which features the red “R” logo and outlines of old CTRs.

2024 Piech GT Is A 600-HP Aston Martin-Style EV With 311-Mile Range

Testing of the Piech GT has begun as the start-up prepares the 911-sized tourer for an anticipated 2024 market launch. The triple-motor set-up is enough for the EV to hit 0–62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.0 seconds, while it’s substantially lighter than most other electric cars, tipping the scales around 1,800kg (3,968 lbs). The GT features a range of 311 miles (500km) and there are plans for a hydrogen-powered version later down the line.

With its 115th anniversary around the corner, Luca Napolitano, Lancia’s CEO, has revealed that the Delta nameplate will be making a return. Speaking to Corriere Della Sera, Napolitano confirmed the revival of the compact model: “It will return and it will be a true Delta — an exciting car, a manifesto of progress and technology, and obviously it will be electric.”

Driven: The 2022 Lexus NX Embraces More Luxury, More Tech And Plug-In Hybrid Power

The luxury crossover segment is a booming one, with no shortage of competition. So for the 2022 Lexus NX, nothing short of greatness would cut it. Having driven one around Scottsdale, Arizona, we can conclude that the new offering is indeed an impressive one. Not only have they fixed the awful infotainment system that has plagued Lexus before, but the interior is also a more premium experience. Add to that the athletic looks, and the NX becomes a compelling option.

2022 BMW 2-Series Active Tourer Debuts With Massive Grille, New Tech And Plug-In Hybrid Power

There’s no getting away from the grille-mongous styling direction of BMW, with their new 2022 2-Series Active Tourer getting the gaping kidney treatment. Set to be released in Europe next February, the second-generation MPV’s interior — the part where you’d spend the most time — is less divisive. In fact, it’s much improved, featuring the new BMW Curved Display. A range of ICE options will be available at launch, while two plug-in hybrid variants will be added in the summer.

Driven: The 2022 Ford Maverick Is Proof Big Things Come In Small Packages

The Hyundai Santa Cruz might be America’s fastest-selling vehicle, but with a starting price of $19,995, we suspect the 2022 Ford Maverick is about to put up a fight. Whichever way you look at it, the small pick-up is shockingly good value, as it combines a well-designed cabin with impressive driving dynamics and a hybrid powertrain as well as an economical yet powerful EcoBoost engine.

General Motors has unveiled their next-generation hands-free driver-assist technology. Dubbed Ultra Cruise, the system incorporates integrated LiDAR to enable hands-free driving across over 2 million miles of US and Canadian roads. When it launches in 2023, Ultra Cruise will be reserved for select premium models, with the less advanced Super Cruise rolled out to a broader range of mainstream models.

Retro-Look Ferrari V12 Hypercar Spotted Again Ahead Of November Launch

Our spies have snapped the upcoming mid-engined Ferrari V12 undergoing tests on public roads. Although it’s cloaked in heavy camo, a memory-inducing outline can be seen. Many have already suggested that the new Ferrari will be retro-inspired, in the vein of the 1960s 330 P4 racer. Either way, we’ll get our final reveal in a month, as the Italian marque will pull the covers off its latest line of its limited run Icona machines at the Ferrari World Finals event in Mugello.

It was a bad start to the week for Facebook. Not only did the social media giant have to face the music as a whistleblower made damning claims about how the company operates, but the entire platform also went down. The server issue took with it other Facebook-owned services as well, including Whatsapp and Instagram. Bloomberg reports that Mark Zuckerberg’s wealth has fallen by more than $6 billion in a few hours, putting him fifth on the world’s richest list.
