Nissan GT-R NFT Brings $2.3 Million, Real GT-R Nismo Special Edition Also Included

An NFT (non-fungible token) created by Canadian artist Alex McLeod featuring the Nissan GT-R has been auctioned for a crazy $2,301,438 which is more than ten times over its original reserve price of $220,000. Nissan Canada was responsible for the auction donating all earnings above the reserve price to charity.

The digital work of art shows the GT-R in three supernatural 3D rendered environments which is a nod to the vehicle’s “supernatural performance”. As described by the artist, the GT-R Nismo Special Edition looks like “it comes from another world” so he wanted to “explore that idea and show people what it could look like, by bridging realities between our physical and imagined worlds”.

For those who are not familiar with the term NFT, the non-fungible token is a digital asset that can only be accessed by its owner. This particular NFT will be stored in RubiX blockchain, incorporating the owner’s Passwordless Digital Identity and “unique QR Codes that require authentication for NFT access, preventing the loss or theft of keys”.

Besides the NFT, the highest bidder will get the keys to a real Nissan GT-R NISMO Special Edition – hence the reserve price. The car comes painted in Stealth Grey combined with a carbon-fiber hood and 20-inch Rays forged aluminum wheels. It is powered by the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 producing 592 hp (441 kW / 600 PS) and 652 Nm (481 lb-ft) of torque, mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.

The auction was completed with the highest bid at $2,301,428.184828194544434832 although the listing states that the payment is still pending. Taking out the reserve price of $220,000 which equals the cost of the real car, a full $2,081,438 will be donated to charity which is surprising given the digital nature of the token.
