The 2018 Geneva Motor Show feels like a millennia ago, but Volkswagen used the event to introduce the stylish I.D. Vizzion concept.

Billed as an “avant-garde premium class saloon,” the concept was followed by a Space Vizzion wagon in 2019 and both were created to preview upcoming production models that are slated to arrive in 2023.

With a debut inching closer, spy photographers have snapped the four-door variant undergoing testing in Europe. However, as you can see, the production model bears little resemblance to the concept that was introduced nearly four years ago.

Snapped wearing minimal disguise, the electric vehicle features a fully enclosed grille which is hidden behind a glorified sticker. Further below, we can see an expressive front bumper with vertical air curtains and a central intake that appears to have a honeycomb mesh insert.

Continuing further back, we can see a prominent shoulder line that recalls the rest of the ID lineup. The prototype also rides on aerodynamic wheels and features tall side skirts, which help to hide the car’s battery pack.

Elsewhere, we can see an integrated rear spoiler and a wide third brake light. The prototype also sports a sizable glass roof and flush-mounted door handles. While it’s hard to judge the car’s size, the ID. Vizzion concept measured 203.3 inches (5,163 mm) long and had a wheelbase that spanned 122 inches (3,100 mm).

Speaking of the concept, the ID. Vizzion had a 111 kWh battery pack and a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that produced a combined output of 302 hp (225 kW / 306 PS). This setup enabled the model to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 6.3 seconds and a have range of up to 413 miles (665 km) in the WLTP cycle.

However, previous reports have suggested the production model will be offered in rear- and all-wheel drive configurations with multiple battery packs. Of course, details are limited and we’re not entirely sure what Volkswagen will call their latest EV, although ID.7 would be a logical guess.
