Aston Martin could be poised to kick CEO Tobias Moers to the curb according a to reports in the British press.

Former AMG CEO Moers was installed as the head of Aston Martin following the dismissal of Andy Palmer in 2020. But just two years into the job it looks like The German might also be shown the door.

Aston’s latest sales figures are actually pretty healthy overall, the company delivering 6,182 cars in 2021 on the back of strong demand for the DBX SUV. That figures represents an uplift of 82 per cent compared to 2020, when Aston was forced to slash production due to the pandemic, and upcoming cars like a faster DBX and V12 Vantage, plus Ferrari-rivaling supercars such as the Valhalla, mean the future looks promising.

But despite the success of its series production cars, the company’s current financial figures aren’t strong. Aston warned the stock exchange that it would miss its earnings target for 2021 largely because of delays in the production of the Valkyrie hypercar. Aston only managed to deliver 10 cars before the year’s end, though it claims that number will now rapidly increase, and demand for the $3.5 million halo machines far outstrips the planned production volume.

That news might not be enough to save Moers, however. According to a report in Autocar, Aston Martin, headed by Canadian businessman Lawrence Stroll, who acquired the firm in 2020, has already approached an unmanned candidate to replace Moers. When asked by Autocar to confirm the rumours, an Aston spokesman declined to comment.

If Moers does go, he’ll be the latest of many senior figures to leave the company. Autocar suggests more than half of the company’s leadership team has departed since Moers took charge, pointing to friction resulting from his leadership style.

Longtime Lotus chassis guru Matt Becker, who joined Aston in 2014, but quickly moved to McLaren last year, and David King, who joined Aston in 1995 and held numerous senior roles before recently switching to Fisker, are just two of many names that have departed from the company’s Gaydon HQ.
