The rivalry between the Subaru Impreza WRX and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo was one of the greatest in recent automotive history. Nevertheless, in a quest to “piss off” all the Subaru and Mitsubishi fanatics, a guy from the Washington state named Jonah – known as
Shood B Good on social media – decided to create the king of mashups: the Subevo.

The Frankenstein of Japanese performance sedans is built by combining the front end from a Mitsubishi Evolution IX, with the rest of the body from a Subaru Impreza WRX “Blobeye”. This means that the modification is almost period-correct making things even more interesting.

The rival models had similar dimensions, boxy flared fenders, almost identical windowlines, and a classic three-box silhouette with a large wing at the back. As a result, the mashup looks weirdly natural, to the point that the untrained eye wouldn’t question its integrity as a whole. Having said that, a more experienced petrolhead will likely feel nausea since the car-identifying part of our brain hits multiple errors when looking at the car.

Sticking a Mitsubishi face on a Subaru doesn’t sound that hard but it required a lot of work. While the bonnet almost bolted up to the stock hinges, Jonah had to cut the front end and compensate by welding a semi tube. Another issue was the size of the Evo headlights which resulted in the elimination (or future relocation) of the Subaru’s air-condition and ABS. Additionally, the Lancer Evo IX is slightly wider than the Impreza WRX meaning that the front fenders had to be adjusted. A genius solution was to combine parts of the front fenders from both cars in order to achieve a smooth transition to the front doors.

Despite all the hurdles, the car is nearly complete, with some work needed on the intercooler and the front grille. Jonah opted for a metallic Soul Red wrap which is more fitting to the Mitsubishi in terms of tradition. He also chose a new set of BBS-style rims that nicely fill up the wheelarches. Currently, the vehicle has no badges which is likely the best option for a mashup.

As you would imagine, the 2.0-liter Subaru boxer engine has been tuned with a downpipe, new intake, turbo, 1,000cc injectors, HKS blow-off valve, and more. Finally, the Subevo also got a new set of coilovers for this lowered look. You can watch the whole process of this unconventional build in Shood B Good’s YouTube channel where you will notice that he has a thing for nose-swaps. We are sure that once it hits the road, the tuned Subevo will be raising more than a few eyebrows.
