This story contains independent illustrations based on the official VW teasers of the Amarok that were penned by Kolesa. They are neither related to nor endorsed by Volkswagen.

Hot on the heels of Volkswagen releasing a handful of sketches of the 2023 Amarok, we’ve found a pair of renderings that show just what the new pickup may look like when it debuts later this year.

VW claimed that its teaser sketches were “near production”, but it’s pretty obvious that they were exaggerated for public consumption. Here’s were Kolesa comes in to tone them down for more realistic view of the Ford Ranger-based truck .

Found at the front of the new Amarok will be overhauled LED headlights that are neatly incorporated into the upper part of the grille. The front fascia also features a host of silver and black accents while also sporting orange two hooks and an orange winch. Elsewhere, we can see that the Amarok has been rendered with pronounced fender flares and large side steps. It is also rolling on large wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires.

The rear of the new Amarok is also shaping up to be significantly more muscular than its predecessor. Immediately catching the eye are aggressive LED taillights and a tailgate with bold design lines. The truck has also been rendered with a particularly rugged rear bumper. The similarities with the new Ford Ranger are quite obvious in certain areas like the roof line and the rear end since both trucks will use the same platform.

While we don’t have renderings previewing the interior of the new Amarok, sketches released by VW show that it will have a digital instrument cluster, a portrait-oriented infotainment screen, and the availability of two-tone upholstery.

Key technical specifications about the new truck remain largely under wraps. With that being said, we have been told the new Amarok will be 3.9-inches (10 cm) longer than its predecessor while also being wider and having more ground clearance. It will also feature a host of driver-assistance functions and come outfitted with an uprated turbocharged V6 diesel engine.
