Jacob & Co and Bugatti have collaborated on yet another timepiece but whereas most others take inspiration from the Chiron hypercar, this new watch is inspired by designer and engineer Jean Bugatti.

Jean, the oldest son of Ettore Bugatti, was born in 1909, the same year that the car manufacturer was established in France. He went on to play a key role in the design of the Bugatti Type 50 series, Type 41 Royale, and the Type 57SC Atlantic.

The Jean Bugatti timepiece features a design reminiscent of a Bugatti Roadster grille from the 1930s and is available with a rose gold case and cream-white dial as well as a white gold case with a blue dial. Just 57 examples of each design will be produced.

The chronograph of the Jean Bugatti timepiece is activated when the start/stop Bugatti is pressed with the first hand moving from 0 to 10, mimicking the look of a tachometer. Once the first hand reaches 10, it jumps back to 0 and starts again while the second hand moves from 00 to 01. As the second hand climbs from 00 and up to 60, the first hand will continue to run from 0 to 10, as if the watch is changing gears and building speed.

Each Jean Bugatti features Jacob & Co’s Calibre JCFM09 movement that is made up of 470 components. Many of these components are highly polished and visible from the back, including the springs, levers, clutches, and bridges. The watch’s movement is made up of the time-keeping part and the second is the chronograph, the former of which has a dedicated barrel, gear train, and twin tourbillons.

Each timepiece also features 92 individual duals and is water resistance up to 30 meters (100 feet). The Jean Bugatti timepiece costs $250,000, just under one-tenth the price of a Chiron.
